Smart ladies love awards shows, dream 2013 Emmy nominees

Since you know our love of both awards shows and TV runs deep, we are really looking forward to hearing the Emmy nominees tomorrow morning. There are no shortlists of nominees posted on the Internet that we can find so expect some weird stuff on this list that we happen to love.

Melissa’s Picks

Comedy Series

ELISHA CUTHBERT, ELIZA COUPE, CASEY WILSON, ADAM PALLY, DAMON WAYANS JR., ZACHARY KNIGHTON

In my dream world, Happy Endings would finally be recognized just as they are cancelled because that is TOTALLY something that would happen to Penny.

Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

We all know Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, and Lena Dunham will be here but wouldn’t it be nice to see Mindy Kaling’s name read out loud tomorrow? The Mindy Project will get better, of course, but a nom would get the show some more attention.

Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

Jason Bateman

With most of the shows I enjoy being ensemble casts, I don’t give a shit about this one. Jason Bateman on Arrested Development? Louis CK?

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

Anna Chlumsky

It’s funny that with all this attention on JLD that Anna Chlumsky’s name is never mentioned as Best Supporting and it SHOULD because she’s really terrific as Amy, Selina’s chief of staff who has more of her shit together than the other weirdos on staff.

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

YEAR OF NICK! YEAR OF NICK! [OK I just read Jake Johnson put himself into the lead category this year, which complicates this a bit more. I would still love Nick Offerman to be recognized, goddammit. Or Alex Karpovsky on Girls.]

Guest Actress in a Comedy Series

Kristen Wiig AD

I might be in the minority but I LOVED Kristen Wiig as young Lucille in Arrested Development. [I LOVED her too! -K]

Guest Actor in a Comedy Series

Casey The Mindy Project

Anders Holm was so cutely weird as Mindy’s pastor-boyfriend Casey on The Mindy Project.

Drama Series

Nashville and The Americans for everything! Both are getting a season 2 but the quality of both shows (network and cable) was so high that I hope people discover them this summer.

Lead Actress in a Drama Series

Keri Russell The Americans 2

I hope Peggy Olsen gets more to do next season, because this year she was stuck pining for Ted, which made me hate her (not for good!). But naturally I would love to see Connie Britton get a nom, as well as Keri Russell from The Americans, who rocks frumpy wigs like nobody’s business. I want that show to get ALL THE ATTENTION.

Lead Actor in a Drama Series

I should probably care about this more than I do, since I’m always on the Jon Hamm side of the Hamm-Cranston Emmy war. But for something completely different, how about Chip Charles Esten from Nashville? Deacon’s relationship with Rayna was the highlight of the first season for me that didn’t include Hayden Panettiere. OR The Americans’ Matthew Rhys, playing a Russian spy with some conflicting feelings about America, his fake marriage and his second fake marriage.

Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

Cersei bitchy

I don’t really know where to put Lena Headey (lead? supporting?), but she was so delightfully bitchy this season in her verbal war with Margaery on Game of Thrones.

Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

Not Great Bob

For Pete’s reactions to Bob Benson ALONE, Vincent Kartheiser deserves a nomination. [So fucking true! -K]

Guest Actress in a Drama Series

I really didn’t know what to put here until I read Katie’s pick of Diana Rigg and I want her too! Good job, K!

Guest Actor in a Drama Series

Walton Goggins SOA

The most memorable performance in Sons of Anarchy ever–Walton Goggins as Venus Van Damme.

TV Miniseries or Movie

I don’t watch these generally but I DID see the Liberace movie so I choose that one. It was gaudy and wonderful.

Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie Series

LLo

There were no ladies in the Liberace movie so I will say L Lo in the worst TV movie I have ever seen.

Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie Series

Michael Douglas in Behind the Candelabra, of course.

Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie Series

Whoever Katie says. Holly Hunter? I just saw Raising Arizona again and remembered how much I love her.

Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie Series

Matt Damon Rob Lowe BTC

There is no justice if Matt Damon AND Rob Lowe are not nominated from BTC.

Katie’s Picks

Comedy Series

Parks&Recs_1

Because I watched every single episode of Parks & Rec in a week I have no clue what season is what all I know is that it truly is my favorite comedy right now!

HMMMMM….The New Girl, The Big Bang Theory, and Parks and Recreation are my fave comedies (TBBT has seriously upped its game in season 6 when most shows start to fumble) . I would like 30 Rock to get a nod for their final season (I’m fairly sure that’s a lock) and I would also like Modern Family to be replaced with Arrested Development and I really really want Happy Endings to get a nod (they are were one of the BEST ensemble comedies out there).

Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

Parks&Rec

Amy Poehler should win all the awards but she is a lock for a nomination so I hope Martha Plimpton and Mindy Kaling get nods.

Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

Parks&Rec_3

EVEN THE GIF MAKES ME CRY…I might just gif my whole section with Parks & Rec!

Adam Scott? Jim Parsons? I don’t care about the dudes.

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

Mayim Bialik AND Melissa Rouche, the dream team who has made The Big Bang Theory FANTASTIC.

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

NewGirl

One of the best onscreen kisses EVER!

Jake Johnson and Simon Helberg, this has been the year of Nick and Howard and both ROSE to the occasion.

Guest Actress in a Comedy Series

TammyandLeslie

TammyandLeslie_2

UMMMMM…Megan Mullally as Tammy Two (I watched all five season of Parks & Rec in a row so I have no clue if she’s eligible but she is fabulous –OH wait she was in last season, she was at the wood show and Leslie and her…I can’t finish I’m laughing too hard)!

Guest Actor in a Comedy Series

I have no fucking clue? James Marsden for 30 Rock, maybe?

Drama Series

ragnarlothbrok_vikings

Behold Travis Fimmel, handsome man and one badass viking!

Vikings, The Americans, Nashville, and Orphan Black were all fantastic new series that should be included (both Vikings and Orphan Black totally shocked me with their quality, from the storytelling to production values —Once Upon a Time should be ashamed of itself with its terrible visual effects AND Game of Thrones should never whine about money because the cinematography/visual effects for Vikings is better and cheaper). In thinking about this I realized that I really enjoyed many more new shows than old shows (except for you Game of Thrones and Mad Men).

Lead Actress in a Drama Series

SarahAndHelena_OrphanBlack

TATIANA MASLANY not only deserves a fucking nomination but she deserves to win. Not one actress or actor did what Tatiana did this year or ever for that matter ever, Tatiana has created not one new character but about seven all different all three-dimensional, there is a reason people have freaked out about Orphan Black and it’s because of her. I don’t think there is one show this year I loved as much as Orphan Black for its originality and gumption. And even though I want Tatiana to win it all Connie Britton and Keri Russell better get a nomination.

Lead Actor in a Drama Series

Jon Hamm is a lock for a nomination but he was fantastic this season. I would also like to see Peter Krause nominated for the lovely performance he gives week after week on Parenthood. AND finally please Emmy people, recognize Joel Kinnaman for the good work he does on The Killing. Reading through Melissa’s I remember Matthew Rhys from The Americans and how the fuck could I forget Timothy Olyphant for Justified.

Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

Any of the women on Game of Thrones could justifiably win this, from Dany the abolitionist to Margery the power player. ALL of them could give Maggie Smith a run for her money.

Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

JamiemynameisJamie

This was the year of Jamie Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau better fucking get a nomination! It was also the year of the Skarsgard and I’m not talking about Alex, I’m talking about Gustaf who was brilliant as Floki the crazy boat builder on Vikings (I miss that show). Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder deserves a nomination for ALL THE AWARDS!

Guest Actress in a Drama Series

QueenofThorns

QUEEN OF THORNS! Dame Diana Rigg was such a pleasure in Westoros.

Guest Actor in a Drama Series

I have no clue about this category for this year but I am already predicting a win for Paul Giamatti as Cora’s playboy brother on Downton Abbey for 2014! MARK MY WORDS!

TV Miniseries or Movie

Top of the Lake, was amazing and was one of the best things I saw this year.

Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie Series

TopoftheLake_ElisabethMoss

Elisabeth Moss in Top of the Lake was FANTASTIC!

Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie Series

BenedictCumberbatch_ParadesEnd

Ummm…Michael Douglas (I only saw parts of Behind the Candelabra)? OHHHHHH…Benedict Cumberbatch for Parade’s End!

Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie Series

TopoftheLakeHollyHunter

Holly Hunter in Top of the Lake should get a nod.

Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie Series

Peter Mullan again from Top of the Lake though I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a lead nomination, he deserves it.

All of the gifs are from tumblr for it is the land of awesome!
