I’m so glad awards season is over, the fashion for the most part has been kind of forgettable. And NOW without further adieu here is my best and worst dressed at the Oscars.
Cate is wearing my favorite of the night. The fit is perfection and the color is just amazing on her. Her face, hair, and jewelry are also just AMAZING.
I would wear this in a heartbeat. The shape is perfect and I am in love with the sequined embroidery.
This silver dress is fun and youthful which is perfect for her first Oscars. Her lips, shoes, and dress length is FABULOUS!
For years I have been begging for a gold gown and now I finally get a gold gown that is everything I have always wanted in a gold gown. It is so eighties fabulous. Again the fit is spot on –good job tailors!
I loved this dress on the runway it’s from Armani Privé Fall line –which was my favorite as all the clothes were combinations of magenta, turquoise, blue, and purple– and so I was pretty excited when I saw it on the red carpet.
The Keira Knightley award (a look that most might find twee but I find AWESOME)
This dress is very voluminous and so, so silver and yet it fits Lily perfectly and her shoes are divine.
So close to perfect and yet not quite there
This is an nearly perfect example of how great pants under a train can work on the red carpet; unfortunately, there are some fit issues in the crotch and bust that keep this from perfection.
Vikander was a ballerina before she was an actor so it’s no surprise that for her first Oscars she went full ballerina (a look I love) and yet the hi-lo bubble skirt nearly ruins this lovely butter-yellow dress. I really wish it was cocktail length and had a tulle underskirt.
Dave Grohl and Jordyn Blum
These two always look like they are going to have a fun night.
Couple who is having THE BEST TIME (AKA a reminder to finish season 2 of Peaky Blinders)
Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley
Tom looks kind of douchey with his sunglasses on but they are parents to an infant so I’m going to give them some slack. As you can see from the second picture they are super enjoying a night out. Also they always remind me I need to finish Peaky Blinders –DONE!
The red carpet duel of the purple dresses
Two ladies wearing dresses in the same shade and similar cut of dress who will win the red carpet duel of the purple dress?!?
Reese looks good but not WOWZA. The fit of her taffeta gown is a little off in the middle and I’m not sure I’m okay with what is happening at her bust. Her make-up, jewelry, and hair are fine.
Tina Fey *WINNER
Tina wins because her dress is less fussy and fits better. She also wins because of that giant necklace which is gorgeous.
Better than before
Priyanka is so beautiful that she never looks bad but I usually find her dresses overly fussy (which I know is cray coming from me) but this is very formal and yet has a bit of an edge with that sheer skirt.
On the fence
This would be good if it was worn by a country star I don’t know (and would have to ask Melissa about) to one of those country awards shows that are on in the spring. Good lipstick.
You can do so much better
Woman, you are barred from wearing black. You have great hair, show that off in green or sapphire blue or deep red. Also Jules this is NOT your shape.
The death of disco OR disco hits the suburbs
Brie’s dress is so dated and cheap looking she looks like a suburban teen going to prom in 1981.
The biggest disappointment EVER
This isn’t awful. In fact, I like it better than Brie’s dress it’s just not what I was expecting. I love the color and the dramatic train. I just wish the fabric was a little “thicker” or not so flimsy. Melissa suggested a belt and that might have help a lot to give it more firmness. Her hair and make-up were also great.
Worst of the worst
This is just NOT GOOD. I know we make fun of her for wearing the same dress but in different colors but that dress at least fits. This dress has so much volume it makes her look huge. Also I love this type of silk but am now realizing I hate it in black because it looks like big trash bags. Lastly, she should have put her hair up it would have helped with the volume issues.
