Smart ladies love fashion, Royal round-up Fall 2014

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

The President Of The Republic Of Singapore Makes A State Visit To The UK: October 21, 2014

After a bout of severe morning sickness the future Queen of England was back in the news wearing an AMAZING Alexander McQueen coat dress to meet the President of Singapore. Her shoes were boring but her hat (which she wore on Easter in Australia) and hair were lovely. [I always complain about her hair so this is an improvement. I don’t think I need to say that the coat dress is amazing and I want to own seven but I will anyway. -M]

The Wildlife Photographer of The Year 2014 Awards: October 21, 2014

Kate recently promoted one of her former personal assistants to stylist. Natasha “Tash” Archer has apparently “persuaded Kate to take some more risks. The hemlines are shorter and Kate’s really pushing the boat out in the fashion stakes.” I assume Tash had a lot to say in the next two looks. I loved the color of this evening dress and I was super excited that Kate is wearing NEW formal shoes but I am uncertain if I dig the weird underskirt of the dress. [The underskirt haunts my dreams. It’s such a nice dress otherwise! -M]

The Duchess Of Cambridge Attends Action On Addiction Dinner: October 23, 2014

This dress is lovely I just wish she was wearing a pair of shoes the color of that bouquet of flowers. [This new Tash girl needs to improve Kate’s shoe selection ASAP. I will even take a plain black pump with a BOW on it at this point. M]

Duke & Duchess Of Cambridge Visit The Valero Pembroke Refinery: November 8, 2014

Another coat I desperately want. I did not realize until I saw this image how much I wanted a long wool double-breasted coat with big gold buttons in blue. [Not a huge fan of the slouching on the boots but the coat is fab. -M]

The UK Observes Remembrance Sunday: November 9, 2014

Another coat with gold buttons! I NEED GOLD BUTTONS! ALSO Camilla Parker-Bowles hat is majestic. [Since it’s going to be a frozen tundra this weekend (read: below 50), I bought some buttons to put on all my button-less vintage coats and they’re ALL GOLD! I am such a Kate. -M]

The Duchess Of Cambridge Attends A SportsAid Athelete Workshop: November 12, 2014

Navy dress and NEW black almost flat suede boots. I also like the navy tights. M, I’m wondering if her boots slouch because she has small ankles? I have that problem even though I have wide calves, no matter how many times I pull the boots up or how tight they are at the top as soon as I stand they slouch. [Mine do too but can’t she afford to pay someone to fix them? I don’t really like how she is doing navy and black. Blah. -M]

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark

Crown Prince Frederik And Crown Princess Mary Of Denmark Official Visit To Canada – Day 1: September 17, 2014

In September the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Denmark spent three days in the Great White North. I am usually very impressed with Mary’s fashion choices but with the exception of a couple of hats and a pair of shoes farther down, most of what she wore in Canada and this fall in general has been snooze city. I’m going to assume this is due to the events.

Here is the outfit for Canada day 1 and boy do I wish Mary would have picked a better coat. I think the black is too harsh for this look. She would have done better with a grey that matches her cute hat. [That coat is totally letting her hat down and I am furious with it. -M]

Crown Prince Frederik And Crown Princess Mary Of Denmark Official Visit To Canada – Day 2: September 18, 2014

This is a very nice business suit. The hair looks both dowdy and impressive. [She does look better than 99% of the people I see where I work but she’s a fucking PRINCESS. Give us some excitement! -M]

Crown Prince Frederik And Crown Princess Mary Of Denmark Official Visit To Canada – Day 3: September 19,2014

On day 3 Mary wore MORE white and black but she also wore some kick-ass snake-skin pumps (dear Kate take note you can still be classy in shoes that are NOT monochrome). [The blouse and skirt seem frumpy and too big. Oh Mary. -M]

Danish royals attend opening of the parliament in Denmark: October 7, 2014

This coat is very pretty but the real showstopper here is the pillbox hat (which may be too far back on her head). [I love a collarless coat but only having two buttons makes it seem so old fashioned and almost maternity. -M]

Regional Review Of The Status Of Women In The UNECE Region : Press Conference: November 6, 2014

Mary was being very serious so she wore a very serious navy suit and an AWESOME brooch. [The suit fits well and the brooch is festive! Congratulations. -M]

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden

Swedish Royals Attend Polar Music Prize at Stockholm Concert Hall: August 26, 2014

I am a fan of a ball gown but I am not a fan of the mullet skirt. I am a fan of cuter than cute Crown Princess Victoria future Queen of Sweden. [The dove grey shoes with the dress particularly annoy me but she’s so cute and I love her husband. -M]

Swedish Royals Attend Celebrations To Mark the 1,000th Anniversary of Skara Diocese: August 30, 2014

This coat is AMAZING. The different patterns is modern and kind of kooky. [I love this! It reminds me of IKEA, so excellent representation of your country’s main brand! -M]

Swedish Royals Attend Junior Water Prize Ceremony: September 3, 2014

This outfit is so much fun. I bet she twirled a lot at home in that skirt. Here is another royal wearing fun and yet still classy shoes. [I would wear a knee length version of that skirt tomorrow. See, Mary, how Victoria paired a full skirt with a not-matronly, well-fitted blouse? -M]

Swedish Royals Attend ‘Never Mind the Gap’ Seminar in Stockholm: September 4, 2014

I don’t know how I feel about this skirt, it’s kind of weird but that might be what I like about it. [It draws too much attention to her vag, but really, this is more interesting than anything Kate wears so IDGAF. -M]

Swedish Royals Attend Kammarkollegiet’s 475th Anniversary Celebrations: September 9, 2014

I want this dress. I would wear it all the time with leggings and cute ballet flats. [Her accessories are great, too! I think the white watch is such a cool, modern touch. -M]

Opening of the Swedish parliament in Stockholm: September 30, 2014

I also want this top and that clutch. [This event sounds very official so I will forgive the repeated wearing of boring black pumps but the top is so cute! TASH, TAKE NOTE! -M]

I LOVED the way Getty titled this photo it’s as if they were super stoked that the President of Estonia went to Sweden. Also I love the jaunty blue bow tie on the President of Estonia. In terms of things I want that Victoria has is that purple shift dress with big buttons on the pockets. [I love that she wore a shift dress to a diplomacy meeting! You go, Vicki! -M]

Queen Letizia of Spain

Spanish Royals Visit Malaga: September 5, 2014

This dress is kind of boring but look at how interesting her shoes are. Letizia has fun shoes (it’s good being queen) be prepared! [So classy! She looks like she would blend right in on the streets of NYC. In Richmond, however, they would ask her why she’s dressed so nice. -M]

Spanish Royals Meet President of Panama and His Wife: September 8, 2014

Her facial expressions while talking to Felipe are priceless. This looks like she is giving Felipe a severe talking to. Letizia has beige shoes that she wears a lot but hers are a peep-toe so vastly more interesting than Kate’s LK Bennett’s. [It’s business time for Letizia! -M]

Queen Letizia of Spain Attends X Luis Carandell Journalism Awards: September 15, 2014

This is a lovely suit. I really want that skirt. [Those peep toes are beginning to look a little hooven to me. I would absolutely wear that skirt. -M]

Spanish Royals Attend the Opening of the School Courses: September 16, 2014

She also has a navy peep-toe pump –TOO! I also want this blazer. Here she looks like she has a HUGE secret. [This is so 90s Ralph Lauren and I am loving it! -M]

Spanish Royals Receives President of Honduras Republic in Madrid: October 1, 2014

She looks like he is teasing her and she is stunned but also pleased. She also looks lovely in fuchsia–she should wear it more. [My, aren’t they a matchy couple? They seem to do this everywhere. -M]

Spanish Royals Attend a Dinner at ‘Casa de ABC’ in Madrid: October 3, 2014

RED LIPPY! This dress has glitter and looks like it would be fun to dance in. I also think these shoes are fun. [It’s probably just the pictures but this looks David’s Bridal to me. -M]

Spanish Royals Attend a Meeting With Cervantes Institute Team: October 9, 2014

I am not on-board with this pink and this burgundy but I like that she has burgundy shoes instead of wearing her peep-toed beige shoes. [This color combination makes me feel ill. -M]

Spanish Royals Meet Waterpolo and Swimming Pool Teams That Joined the European Championships: October 10, 2014

Tan loafer heels FUN! [I made up a song for Letizia that goes “lady suuuiiiiit/I love my lady suuuuiiiiit.” -M]

Spanish Royals Attend National Day Military Parade 2014: October 12, 2014

I think I would have preferred this as a suit. [I LOVE this, especially the neckline and color. -M]

King Felipe And Queen Letizia Of Spain Visit The Netherlands: October 15, 2014

This is pretty and the shoes are nice but just wait and see what Queen Máxima wore to this same meeting. [Maxima always wins. -M]

Spanish Royals Attend International Journalism Award: October 20, 2014

SPARKLES! I love Felipe’s tie. [Not in love with the suede pumps but this is otherwise pleasant. -M]

Queen Letizia of Spain Attends 25th Anniversary Of The Spanish Transplant Organization: October 22, 2014

I included this pants-suit because I liked the shoes. I also want to note that Letizia wears pants a lot and I love her for it. [She also wears really lovely blouses with her suits! -M]

Principe de Asturias Awards 2014 – Day 1: October 23, 2014

I included this also because of the shoes. This woman has tons of shoes and they are both interesting and classy. [She needs them to liven up that boring dress. -M]

Principe de Asturias Awards 2014 – Gala: October 24, 2014

I don’t really like this dress but her make-up is lovely. [I love black and blue together but this looks Target-level cheap. I mean, I like Target, but I am not a queen. -M]

Spanish Royals Visit Boal Village: October 25, 2014

FLATS! A Queen is wearing FLATS! She is also very sassy in this photo. [I feel like breaking out into the Mary Tyler Moore theme song here. She needs a jaunty hat to throw! -M]

Opening of the exhibition of Spanish painter Diego Velazquez at the Museum of Fine Arts in Vienna: October 27, 2014

I love the leather skirt. Her lipstick here is also very pretty. [That blazer is killlllllling me. -M]

Spanish Royals and President Of Chile Attend a Gala Dinner: October 29, 2014

TIARA! So lovely. Again her make-up is divine. [WOW she is really pretty up close. Also super tiny. -M]

Queen Letizia of Spain Attends Audiences At Zarzuela Palace: November 3, 2014

LOVE THIS. I love the top, the cut of the pant and those red shoes with the chunky heel. See ladies this is how you rock black and white. [I am so glad to see her wear this cut of pant and I hope they stick around forever because wide-legs make me look dumpy. Also, gimme that top. -M]

Spanish Royals Attend ‘Francisco Cerecedo’ Journalism Awards: November 5, 2014

FORMAL PANTS. The top isn’t great but I love Letiza’s commitment to pants. [The top would look better tucked into a high waisted black full skirt. -M]

Spanish Royals Visit Brussels: November 12, 2014

(We will talk about Queen Mathilde down below) Letizia as usual looks lovely and now I really want to try and braid my hair like she has been doing lately. [I want ALL the  things in this blue color. -M]

Queen Mathilde of Belgium

200 Years Of The Kingdom Of The Netherlands In Maastricht: August 30, 2014

Mathilde often dresses like the mother of the bride and like Camilla Parker-Bowles she has a thing for nutty hats. This hat looks like fabric scraps that she found after the dressmaker made this suit. [BEIGE PEPLUM? I think I found my new least favorite thing in the world. -M]

King Philippe Of Belgium Visits The Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) In Mons: September 30, 2014

This is lovely and I think might be my favorite of all of HER looks. The color and collar are quite fetching. [It needs a brooch! -M]

‘Autumn Concert 2014’ At The Royal Palace In Brussels: October 15, 2014

She should wear her hair pinned up more often. She looks ten years younger in this picture. I also don’t hate the taupe satin heals. [Mother of the bride. -M]

Reception at the Laken-Laeken Royal Castle in Brussels: October 27, 2014

This is pretty but I think it would have been better if her hair was in a chignon. [Needs a necklace. -M]

Nieuwpoort Commemorates WWI Centenary: October 28, 2014

This is very restrained. I am sad that this hat isn’t nuttier. [She’s wearing a formal Snuggie! -M]

Spanish Royals Visit Brussels: November 12, 2014

I just noticed that both ladies are wearing one glove, ladies you wear both gloves like Máxima (see numerous examples below). I think Mathilde looks great in this emerald but I think the coat might be a tad bit big. She also had some issues with the wind and there are a lot of photos of her holding the front of the coat down which makes me think that this is more dress than coat (I kind of find this scandalous in a silly way). I like her blue gloves and weird bird-nest headband/hat. [So very Grace Kelly. Approve. -M]

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands

200 Years Of The Kingdom Of The Netherlands In Maastricht: August 30, 2014

And now ladies and gentlemen I bring you the QUEEN OF HATS. My favorite of these ladies the Argentinian Queen of the Netherlands, Máxima! Look at all the great things, fun hat, GLOVES (I think we should bring back gloves), two toned taupe shoes (makes taupe less taupe), and a gorgeous patterned dress. [I would absolutely wear this, the shape of the sleeves is so cool. -M]

Dutch King Willem-Alexander addresses the Dutch Senate and House of Representatives from the throne in the Hall of Knights: September 16, 2014

MONOCHROMATIC RED. HAT. GLOVES. CLUTCH. DRESS. So much AWESOME! [I just want to sit on the throne in the Hall of Knights! -M]

Queen Maxima Of The Netherlands Opens Micropia Museum: September 30, 2014

TURBANS! So many turbans. Acid yellow. This woman is not afraid of clothes, Tash really needs to print out pictures of Máxima and tape them to the back of Kate’s coat closet as a reminder of how much fun a Queen can have with fashion. [The bottom half is not very flattering but I don’t think Maxima gives a shit. -M]

Queen Maxima Of The Netherlands Opens Markthal: October 1, 2014

UGGG this is just so good. Hat and shoes are so much fun and the dress is sophisticated and classy. [I want one accessory to not be red. It’s just a little too much for me. -M]

Queen Maxima Of The Netherlands Attends Symposium 40 Years Protection Domestic Violence: October 14, 2014

More gloves, more red, more large hats. This time with a patterned clutch and burgundy shoes. I am on the fence about the shoes. [Those shoes look like a mistake. Maybe the ones she planned to wear had a broken heel. -M]

King Felipe And Queen Letizia Of Spain Visit The Netherlands: October 15, 2014

THIS is what Máxima wore to hang out with Letizia and Felipe. More gloves. More large hats. More fun. That necklace is just on the right side of crazy-town. [The shoes are my favorite and I love that they are  making the outfit not completely monochromatic. -M]

The Sympathized Family Foundation (Stichting Meeleefgezin) in Doorn: October 17, 2014

This is fun but I miss the hats and gloves. I do love that she wore chartreuse earrings. [It must have been windy, her hair is a mess! So unlike Maxima. -M]

King Willem-Alexander Of The Netherlands Visits Japan: October 29, 2014

I really could have ordered her clothes in roy g biv, she wears soooooo many colors.  This orange dress and matching turban pillbox hybrid is fucking fantastic. [Every vintage repro place online tries to replicate this dress. HOWEVER in the bottom picture she looks like she’s smelling something bad. -M]

State Dinner at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo: October 29, 2014

TIARA! I wish there were better pictures of this. [Sometimes I run out of things to say about pretty dresses I like. This is one of those times. -M]

The University in Tokyo: October 30, 2014

Man I love emerald-green and burgundy as a color combo. Máxima has great hat hair. [The brooch is great but seriously with the peplum. -M]

Banquet at the Akasaka Palace state guesthouse in Tokyo: October 30, 2014

She looks like she was attacked by moss. [I love this because she/her stylist (who Kate should steal) really thought hard about what to wear to an avant garde fashion city. -M]

Those bell sleeves need formal gloves STAT. [I don’t want to be one of those people that is like, women must always look small and feminine and can’t experiment with fashion but those pleats are really bothering me. -M]

King Willem-Alexander Of Netherland Visits South Korea – Day 2: November 3, 2014

TURBAN. GLOVES. WRAP OF AWESOME! The dress is also quite fetching. [MINT GREEN! It’s such an underutilized color and I love with with the beige. I need that wrap/cape thing. -M]

Crown Princess Estelle of Sweden

Princess Victoria of Sweden Birthday celebrations: July 14, 2014

You didn’t think I would forget about the cutest future Queen on this list did you. [She looks so Swedish that she could be on their money. -M]

Princess Estelle Of Sweden Begins Pre School – Photocall: August 25, 2014

SO CUTE! [Even Princess Estelle loves classic Swedish brand Fjallraven. Even when these people are dressed to look like normal people for a photocall walking their daughter to school on her first day, it’s totally believable! -M]
