Smart ladies love movie trailers, the week in trailers April 8, 2013

Movie Trailer Mondays

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere.   Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

The Great Gatsby movie poster

Biggest movie coming out this week

This is a MUCH better trailer than the first one I saw for 42 which seemed to be of the “give Harrison Ford and Oscar already” variety, this trailer kind of made me want to see the film. Also because it now prominently features Jackie Robinson (as a biopic should) I see just how hot Chadwick Boseman is. To wit I say, “Mr. Boseman where have you been all this time?” [Fun fact: I am in a fantasy baseball league and I will be drafting the players based on their beards. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Arthur Newman, April 26, 2013

Colin Firth in a rom-com with Emily Blunt–where they appear to both be playing Americans–looks great. I hope this is not a disappointment. [Emily Blunt does a good American accent but why can’t these people just be British? It’s a rom-com. -M]

The English Teacher, May 17, 2013

I think this is either the third or fourth Julianne Moore movie we have featured in past posts and this is the only one I am mildly excited about. [JON HODGMAN! Greg Kinnear! Nathan Lane! This movie is full of winners. It still won’t get Julianne that elusive Oscar though. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

The Great Gatsby, May 10, 2013

I hated the book The Great Gatsby in school and I REALLY hated the Robert Redford/Mia Farrow adaption and making it 3D just makes me want to roll my eyes; however, Carey Mulligan’s clothes and a Jay-Z score have me very mildly intrigued. [I, on the other hand, love this book and I am pretty obsessed with 1920s literature. Tobey Maguire is a perfect Nick and Joel Edgerton is how I pictured Tom, but all the other casting makes me nervous. I will go see it for the clothes FOR SURE. I just realized if this was a comedy and Jason Segal played Tom it would be AMAZING. -M]

Before Midnight, May 24, 2013

I LOVED Before Sunrise but by the time Before Sunset came out I had already decided I hated Ethan Hawke (I watched Reality Bites and realized that Ben Stiller would make a better boyfriend which made me feel fucking old and so I have taken it out on poor Ethan Hawke well that and I always have found his voice very whiny) but this trailer is so cute and I LOVE Julie Delphy that I am kind of excited about this movie.

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Carrie, October 18, 2013

I have never seen the original Carrie I have listened to Adam Sandler’s “there all going to laugh at you” about a million times and did laugh when Julianne Moore says it in the trailer which I’m not sure is what director Kimberly Pierce had in mind. [JULIANNE! Don’t you want to win an Oscar! STOP IT WITH THIS CRAP. Go work with the Coens again. -M]
