Movie Trailer Mondays

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this week

Ender’s Game

I really enjoyed Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit and have been waiting to see her in something else (other than Romeo and Juliet) so I am super excited to see this movie. It also stars Harrison Ford, Viola Davis, and Ben Kingsley. [There is some sort of controversy that Ender isn’t in the trailer enough but when Ben Kingsley is in your movie with a giant face tattoo, that is all you should want to show. -M]

Jewtopia is out onDemand and for Rent

This movie reminded me of the wonderful WB show Jack & Jill starring Ivan Sergei and Amanda Peet who were both fabulous and WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?!? Ivan Sergei has tried TV and now independent films and Amanda Peet has had slightly more success but not really, this makes me sad. [Oh I miss that show too! RIP WB. Amanda Peet has been great in a few films, like Please Give, but she’s not in enough stuff. Hire her! -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Anchorman: The Legend Continues, December 20, 2013

There is so much dumb in this trailer but I laughed the entire time. [This made me laugh so hard!!! OH BRICK I HEART YOU. -M]

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, April 4, 2014

There is just something so wonderful about Chris Evans, he is just so darn likable. I really really liked the first Captain America movie and am actually really excited about this sequel. Robert Redford is creepy and menacing in this trailer and I’m not sure if that is what they were going for. Also ANTHONY MACKIE! [I loved the first Captain America movie. Well, love is a strong word, but it was way better than Thor. And the character is hilarious. This movie loses points for ScarJo but regains them with extra eye candy Anthony Mackie. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, November 29, 2013

I love Idris Elba and Naomi Harris but I’m not sure about this biopic, I think because I already know so much about Nelson Mandela but if the reviews are good then I might give it a whirl. [I would watch a biopic on Katie, as long as Idris Elba was in it. Though were there no actual African actors available to play Nelson Mandela? -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Charlie Countryman, January 21, 2014

This movie looks like a comedy, then like a thriller and the trailer is all over the place. It should not be necessary to have the words “genre defying” written across the screen. I also love Mads Mikkelsen so I don’t want him to be a bad guy. [This trailer is so weird. The music does not make sense with what is happening on screen. That said, I love every single person in this movie, even greasy Even Stevens, so I would probably watch it on cable, despite the horrible reviews it’s already receiving. -M]
