Movie Trailer Mondays

Kill Your Darlings

David Rasche in Kill Your Darlings

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Biggest movie coming out this week

Prisoners

This film got pretty descent reviews when it premiered at TIFF. When we first showed this trailer in June I was undecided (I think I have issues with Maria Bello) and I’m still unsure. Hugh Jackman, Viola Davis and Jake Gyllenhaal make me think this might be really gripping but it also looks like it might be depressing –stop putting little girls in peril, please. [And stop showing scenes of Maria Bello crying like that’s her only characteristic. I will not see this but isn’t Paul Dano the best? -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Kill Your Darlings, October 16, 2013

Every time I watch this trailer I get excited about a grown-up Daniel Radcliffe (the Harry Potter kids have all done well since leaving the series –is it because they are British or because the series took so long to complete that they never had a chance to implode before adulthood?). There are other great actors in this as well, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jack Huston (who I keep hoping will become a bigger deal, he is the best thing in Boardwalk Empire) to name a few. [Agreed about Jack on BE, Katie, and he was great in Not Fade Away too. So this is basically about the Beats in college and Dexter gets murdered? I am ok with that. -M]

Finding Vivian Maier, TBA 2013

I heard about this a couple of years ago and was reminded about it when I was researching TIFF. It’s crazy what we don’t know about our neighbors. I wish I had found those photos. I keep hoping HBO picks up this documentary. [I’m thrilled someone made a movie about this! It doesn’t have a distributor? That is a travesty. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Parkland, October 4, 2013

Zac Efron is a DOCTOR, it’s about as believable as Rachel Bilson on Heart of Dixie. This movie also has Paul Giamatti and Marcia Gay Harden so I bet it’s not all bad even though it reminds me of Bobby (that movie with Lindsey Lohan about the assassination of Bobby Kennedy). [I love Paul Giamatti but I am bored of JFK. We need some new movie subjects. -M]

The Railway Man, January 3, 2014

This movie looks depressing as hell but I’m sure it is supremely well acted. I also firmly believe that Nicole Kidman just needs to embrace her age the way she embraces characters her age, lady you are gorgeous just go with it and stop putting shit in your face. This movie also stars the kid from Warhorse he must like being in depressing war movies. [Awards bait! I would hate this, I’m as tired of Nicole Kidman as I am of JFK. I hate everything this morning. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Escape From Tomorrow, October 11, 2013

I will never watch this movie but I do commend the filmmakers for secretly filming in Disneyland, that’s pretty neat. [What is up with that kid’s eyes? I like that it’s black and white but no scary movies for me, especially ones with amateur actors. -M]
