Movie Trailer Mondays

WeAreTheBest!

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this week

Tasting Menu

This is probably NOT the most interesting film opening on Friday (it’s only opening in 4 theaters) but it’s the only movie that if I could go see it I would. That food looks beautiful. I also LOVE Stephen Rea. [Hey this is based on El Bulli–I just watched this doc on Netflix. I will go see this too, in six months when it plays in my town for three days. -M]

Refuge, is out onDemand and for Rent

Krysten Ritter and Brian Geraghty star in this quiet indie. It’s probably because I watch a shit-ton of horror/psychological thriller trailers that I fear for Geraghty’s life based on the creepy looks that brother was giving him –right OR is that why it’s ‘darkly funny.’ [I’m happy that All the Real Girls is now influencing young filmmakers! OF NOTE: this movie is written and directed by a woman, Jessica Goldberg! Support female-created movies!! -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Chef, May 9, 2014

Jon Favreau, made a Jon Favreau movie more like Swingers and less like Iron Man –FUN! BONUS Bobby Cannavale! [The cast of this is great!!! Amy Sedaris is in it too. I wish we had time to see this graduation weekend but we will be too busy drinking shandies.  -M]

We Are the Best!, May 30, 2014

SWEDISH EIGHTIES MOVIE WHERE THREE TEEN GIRLS START A PUNK BAND –AMAZING!!! [THIS IS THE GREATEST TRAILER EVER. CAN I BUY THIS MOVIE YET?? I love everything about this. We are the best, indeed. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

A Night in Old Mexico, May 16, 2014

I’m not sure if this looks good or if my love of Robert Duvall makes me think it’s good, either way I will rent this indie from the comfort of the couch. [I also love Robert Duvall and will watch him in anything, even A Night in Old Mexico, which sounds racist somehow. -M]

Wish I Was Here, July 18, 2014

I loved Zach Braff’s Garden State when it came out and for a short period once it was out on DVD but I recently tried to watch it and find it WAY too TWEE. What the fuck was going on with Natalie Portman’s family? Was what’s-her-face from Designing Women boning Jim Parson’s knight from Medieval Times? Why do I still enjoy that song “Let Go” from the soundtrack? Anyway I will watch this when I can rent it. [Katie, you KNOW Peter Sarsgaard was the best part of Garden State and for that reason I will always love it. Also, I saw that movie with you when I lived in Albany! Shortly afterwards I moved back home, probably inspired by Braff’s character. OK, back to this trailer: Why is he still obsessed with The Shins? This seems like Garden State redux. I am bored. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

The Expendables 3, August 15, 2014

I’ve just decided that if you have Kellan Lutz in your movie it automatically puts it in the shit list ALSO I’m not even sure why I hate Kellan Lutz. [WHY ARE THERE THREE OF THESE MOVIES? I hate Kellan Lutz too. Maybe my hatred of him has rubbed off on you, and for that I am sorry. -M]

American Blogger, TBA

This movie could also be titled “Blond Bloggers!” My favorite part of this trailer is the hokey voice-over “beautifully filmed and artistically crafted” which sounds like the back of a self published book –FUN? [This is the worst trailer I have ever seen, yet I have watched it thirty times. Why is everyone blonde/white/female? Does the director have some fetish? If this was a parody I would hail it as brilliant, but alas… -M]
