Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, August 3, 2015

Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

Fantastic Four

With this cast I have high hopes this is better than the last two Fantastic Four movies (except for national treasure Chris Evans). [I am thankful for the Michael B. Jordan-Kate Mara smackdown of dumb reporter questions. If this isn’t funny I will skip it; however, this is a total cable movie. -M]

Jenny’s Wedding, is out onDemand and for Rent

One review I read of this movie said its premise and screenplay are super dated which after watching the trailer I concur. [It’s 2015, for the love of GOD. This is written by the same person who wrote Beaches, so it’s probably too focused on touchy-feely family shit. And despite my love of the Gilmore Girls, neither Alexis Bledel or Katherine Heigl are good enough actors to convince me they have sex or are even in love. Between Freeheld and Carol there are actually movies coming out about lesbians who act like they love each other, so let’s all skip this one. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Spotlight, November 6, 2015

I love movies about journalists; in fact, I often re-watch The Paper (also starring Michael Keaton), so I’m super stoked about this movie about the group of Boston journalists who broke the Catholic molestation cover-up. [I ALSO love The Paper. I think I like journalist movies because these characters are real and not rich. Look at that shitty, depressing office and all the sad ties! This movie has so many of my favorite character actors! Plus you know I love movies that aren’t biopics that are based on a true story. -M]

The Night Before, November 25, 2015

I love a flustered Seth Rogen; it always makes me giggle. [Red band trailers are THE BEST. OMFG JILLIAN BELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this movie for casting her. “Don’t you dare throw up in here; swallow it like a girl would.” I am already in line for this (probably offensive, definitely funny) mess. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Room, October 16, 2015

Brie Larson is a fabulous actress (she was the best thing about The United States of T.A.R.A and Short Term 12 is really good) so I’m sure this movie will be phenomenal but also really sad and lets hope uplifting by the end. [If I had known what Short Term 12 was about before I saw it, I would not have watched it, just based on my love of Brie Larson. I’m glad I watched it because it’s AWESOME. I don’t think I will be able to say the same about Room, the trailer skews “horror,” which, as you know, I HATE. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, January 15, 2016

I’m not going to try to write how repellent this movie looks when Max Fisher at Vox did it already but I will say that I thought better of John Krasinski (though I have to admit the beard is hot).  [AND Pornstache AKA Pablo Schreiber is also in it. Strangely enough, in this very post we have a movie with his half-brother Liev in it. Everything’s coming up Schreiber! I also don’t know what to say about this movie except I love the hot beards and Michael Bay is literally THE WORST. -M]
