Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, December 1, 2014

Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

Reese Witherspoon stars as writer Cheryl Strayed based on her memoir Wild. The more I watch this trailer the more I want to see this movie. It also reminds me I need to read Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar which Melissa gave me for Christmas –I currently am terrible at finishing books that don’t have pictures (comics are my life). Anyway this movie looks awesome and Reese seems to be the only person who might possibly beat  Julianne Moore in the Alzheimer’s drama Still Alice for the best actress Oscar (I will never watch Still Alice but I really want Julianne Moore to win an Oscar). [Tiny Beautiful Things changed my life! I am looking forward to seeing this, even though I haven’t read Wild, because I know so much about this character’s background from TBT. She’s not the most likeable person (she’s done a lot of fucked up things, like most of us), so I am sure we will all have to hear about unlikeable women again! Just what I want for Christmas–misogyny! -M]

The Babadook, is out onDemand and for Rent (starting November 6th)

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries star Essie Davis stars in this psychological horror movie. It has gotten rave reviews but for those of you who don’t like horror movies may I recommend Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries on Netflix because Essie Davis is AMAZING. [I keep meaning to watch Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, maybe over winter break. I will not be seeing The Babadook. SHIVVVVERSSSS. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Melissa does NOT like animated movies but surly she can find room in her heart for this movie with a CAT! It also has a female lead who is a person of color (RHIANNA) which makes it even more special, but again adorable cat, and an alien voiced by Jim Parsons. [That “Oh” part in the trailer made me giggle. I would definitely watch this if I had kids, but there’s no way I would ever pay $7.50 (I go to the earliest movies possible) to see a cartoon. -M]

Jurassic World, June 12, 2015

CHRIS PRATT in a Jurassic Park sequel makes it a sequel I must see. This movie also looks pretty fun. [Chris Pratt, new movie star!!! It’s so exciting that little Bright/Andy is super famous. I’ll bet Charlie Hunnam is still crying that he sucked in Pacific Rim and no one still knows who he is. I may be pissed about this pointlessly ultraviolent season of Sons of Anarchy. -M]

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, December 18, 2015

I don’t have words that express my feelings for Star Wars VII except to scream JOHN BOYEGA and his handsome face is a storm-trooper over and over again. ALSO Daisy Ridley looks kind of bad ass on that scooter. WHY IS THIS OUT IN A YEAR!!! [The first time I watched this was on my phone in a Firestone parking lot (I was there for an hour), which is so crazy, because when the last one came out I had a flip phone. I fully trust JJ and believe this will be fantastic. My husband is a huge Star Wars nerd and keeps showing me the memes that have been made from this trailer. It will be a long year in my house. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Cake, TBA 2015

Jennifer Aniston is getting good buzz in this movie in which she plays a woman who has issues with pain. It also stars Anna Kendrick as a ghost and Sam Worthington as Kendrick’s husband. I will most likely watch this when it comes on cable. [Jennifer Aniston’s mid century house is amazing! I like movies like this about regular people, I have so many friends who suffer from chronic illnesses. This movie reminds me of Enlightened somehow. Definitely on my list. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Pan, July 17, 2015

As much as I like Rooney Mara I do not buy her as a Native American and I have had enough of this shit. ALSO Garrett Hedlund is playing Hook, so he will ultimately lose a hand and no longer be able to play his guitar and sing country songs. [I too am furious with having a white woman play a Native American. It is fucking 2015 and haven’t we gotten better than this? I will boycott the shit out of this, even though it stars our boyfriend Garrett Hedlund. I am boycotting it so much I refuse to even watch the trailer. -M]
