Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, February 16, 2015

Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

Hot Tub Time Machine 2

I’m ashamed to admit that this trailer had me laughing a lot mainly due to my love for Craig Robinson, I just want to watch him sing “Stay” over and over again. [I thought the first HTTM was fun (but dumb), so I’m not mad that this is out during these cold, dark days. Plus, we get a glimpse of our near future, with the great Jessica Williams hosting The Daily Show (above). Please? -M]

Love Rosie, is out onDemand and for Rent

Right now on Amazon you can rent this movie starring Lily Collins and her fabulous eyebrows trying NOT to be in love with Finnick Odair for the low low price of $6.99 (24 hours) OR you can rent Two Night Stand for $0.99 (for a week) which stars Miles Teller and Analeigh Tipton. One of these is the better deal but I will let you decided which one that is. [My interest in this movie was immediately killed when I saw, “From the writer of PS I Love You” on screen. I don’t really understand the plot of this–is it like Sliding Doors with two storylines? To be honest, I don’t really care, because YES, I would prefer to see Two Night Stand due to my undying love of Miles Teller and Analeigh Tipton, the best thing to ever come out of America’s Next Top Model. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Hot Pursuit, May 8, 2015

In our continuing effort to bring you every trailer for every movie directed by a woman today we have Hot Pursuit which thankfully made me laugh more than I thought it would (truth be told I could listen to Reese Witherspoon read off weird aliases for two hours). This might be the next great Miss Congeniality (AKA a movie I will watch over and over again on any channel at any time because it will always make me laugh). [The name of this was changed from when I covered it here (formerly Don’t Mess With Texas). This is definitely the new Miss Congeniality–AND directed by the same person who did one of my favorite post-2000 rom coms, The Proposal. It definitely looks funnier than the last few Melissa McCarthy movies, and I watch Identity Thief all the time. -M]

Trainwreck, July 17, 2015

I don’t watch any shows on Comedy Central so I only know that Amy Schumer is a comedian with a show on Comedy Central so I was basically coming into this trailer knowing nothing and found it really very funny AND I am super pleased Judd Apatow is moving beyond man children. Warning this is the red band trailer because I like the F word. [Amy Schumer is funny and delightful and this trailer cracks me up. Supporting actors include SWINTON in Anna Wintour mode, Vanessa Bayer, Jon Glaser, Brie Larsen, and tons of other hilarious folks. Plus Bill Hader as a love interest? I cannot get enough of him. EVER. -M]

The Man from U.N.C.L.E., August 14, 2015

I am so happy we are finally getting trailers for all of the summer movies we are super excited about and they all look so good. I was pretty meh for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. but watching the trailer made me super excited, it looks sleek and super fun. Also Henry Cavill is really rocking an American accent and those sixties suits. [This looks way better than I thought it would be! Plus no Amber Heard fucking it up (sorry, Magic Mike XXL). I’m officially excited, and not just for Henry Cavill looking hot in nice suits. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Aloha, May 29, 2015

This movie looks like Elizabethtown in Hawaii. Now I must admit I am the one person who liked Elizabethtown but most people think it’s insipid treacle that created the manic pixie dream girl so I’m basically all in Aloha EXCEPT for one thing my minuscule dislike for Bradley Cooper. Danny McBride is a bright spot. [I will admit that I don’t hate Bradley Cooper–he’s a Philly boy gone big! Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, Bill Murray, Alec Baldwin and Emma Stone will soften the blow of this appearing like a pretty boring, bland (WHITE) romance. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Hitman: Agent 47, August 28, 2015

I love you Rupert Friend but I’m not sure how I feel about you with a shaved head. ALSO SLLS fave Timothy Olyphant was the original Agent 47. And yes I do watch a LOT of action movies. [If given the choice, I would rather watch this on HBO than Aloha. Zachary Quinto! -M]
