Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, January 18, 2016

Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of! [Sorry it’s been so long since the last MTM but holidays and awards shows got in the way. -K]

Notable movies coming out this weekend

Dirty Grandpa

I don’t understand what Zac Efron is doing with his career. [Nope. No. Definitely not. -M]

Diablo, is out onDemand and for Rent

Scott Eastwood doing his best impression of his dad and failing. [Walton Goggins is too good to be in a movie where he’s billed under Camilla Belle. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

10 Cloverfield Lane, March 11, 2016

I have never seen the first Cloverfield (it’s on a list of movies I have to watch after this weekend, along with, Goodfellas, The Wolf of Wall Street and Casino) but I love everyone in this and the trailer is both playful and super creepy. [I don’t know if I will see a Cloverfield movie that TJ Miller isn’t in. This trailer, however, is phenomenal and REALLY hooks you. -M]

Money Monster, May 13, 2016

This trailer is really fucking good and reminds me a lot of Inside Man (which starred this films director Jodie Foster). [Directed by a woman!! It makes me yearn for the adult thrillers of yore. There should be more of them. -M]

Sing Street, TBD

We saw this before Carol (both loved it both sad it was not nominated for more awards) and it was such a delight I hope it is as light and happy as this trailer (BONUS POINTS for casting a person of color and not just having a cast of pastey faced adolescent Irish boys). [I was not the biggest fan of Begin Again–mainly, Keira Knightly’s character only had male musical heroes even though her music sounded like Jenny Lewis. I am hesitant to be super excited for this because of the tired teenage boy coming-of-age story, but the music is awesome. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Elvis & Nixon, TBD

Michael Shannon is so weird but I LOVE the idea of him doing Elvis, this trailer cracks me up. [I am so passionate about seeing Michael Shannon do comedy, but Elvis? It’s a little weird! -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Everybody Wants Some, April 15, 2016

I expected more from Richard Linklater after Boyhood than Dazed in Confused set in the 80s. [My husband and I saw this trailer before The Big Short, and as soon as it was over, we turned to each other and “mehhhhhhed.” -M]
