Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, July 6, 2015

Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of! [Thanks to Melissa and PJ for filling in for the past two weeks! I’m sad I missed Grandma (Lily Tomlin RULES). -K]

Notable movies coming out this weekend

I don’t know why Ryan Reynolds and Mathew Goode are in this but let’s hope they were paid well so they can do more rewarding things with their time. [So in this movie Ben Kinglsey, who is presumably close to death, moves into Ryan Reynolds’ body, plays sports and has a bunch of sex. Then it all goes bad. I wish there more women in this who are active in the sci-fi story. -M]

Jackie & Ryan, is out onDemand and for Rent

I can’t wait for this crap film to be free so that Melissa and I can get drunk and live tweet it. BONUS Katherine Heigl does her own singing. Also it takes place in Ogden, Utah one of the cities I visited in my cross-country trip (full disclosure I just slept there on my way home but the people seemed nice). [But hey, directed by a woman! I hate that the trailer reveals everything and I wish Leighton Meester was in it instead. It does look pretty! -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Sleeping With Other People, September 11, 2015

I have wanted to see this movie since I read about it when it premiered at Sundance, the trailer looks just as good as I thought would. Also it is written and directed by a woman –WIN! [Yessssss I am so excited this has a release date. NATASHA LYONNE! This is probably a typical rom com but the cast is amazing and it looks charming and sweet. -M]

Steve Jobs, October 9, 2015

I wasn’t that interested in a movie about Steve Jobs but Michael Fassbender makes everything so much more appealing. This movie also benefits from a phenomenal supporting cast. [Fassy > Ashton Kutcher. I love that Steve Jobs comes off as an asshole. However, I am still mad at Aaron Sorkin for The Newsroom. -M]

Creed, November 25, 2015

I have never seen a single Rocky movie but I will watch just about anything involving Michael B. Jordan so I was already kind of in but this trailer is actually really good. ALSO bonus points for Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad. [The guy who directed Fruitvale Station was picked to do this? Weird. I don’t have much interest in movies like this and it’s trying hard to be contemporary, but Michael B. Jordan is such an exciting actor. Meh. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Queen of the Desert, TBA 2015

When I first saw the picture of Robert Pattinson as T. E. Lawrence I thought this was a potentially offensive comedy; instead, it’s about a wealthy white lady with many suitors (DON’T PICK FRANCO, KIDMAN, WHEN YOU HAVE LEWIS)  trying to bring peace and understanding to the middle east (good luck). [There is no way this is good, but it should be quite entertaining and the clothes are nice. Nicole should have stopped filling her face before making this, she TRAVELS IN THE DESERT, she should look like she’s been in the sun. Wait.. WARNER HERZOG DIRECTED THIS?? I am so confused about life. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Daddy’s Home, December 25, 2015

I have finally decided that I hate Mark Wahlberg (except in Boogie Nights that movie rocks). I have also decided that no family should spend Christmas with Mark Wahlberg even if Will Ferrell is there. [Daddy’s Home is SUCH a bad title, but this trailer made me laugh several times. I can’t pass up a Will Ferrell movie and Mark Wahlberg is better in comedies because I can’t buy him in serious roles at all. He’s too goofy. -M]
