Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, June 23, 2014

Movie Trailer Mondays

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this week

The Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton apocalypse on a train movie is finally being released in the US AND Harvey Weinstein is allowing us to see the real cut. [There is no way I would ever see this but I would enjoy a supercut of just closeups of Chris Evans’ bearded face. Thank you. -M]

A Long Way Down, is out onDemand and for Rent

For about 10 bucks you can watch the Nick Hornby suicide romcom in the comfort of your own living room. I would really like to tell you how the book is but I can’t ever get into it and I have tried on several flights (seriously, I have schelpt that book across this country more than once). [I would watch this on HBO–you know I love Rosamund Pike–but even paying $10 for it seems excessive. I can’t work myself up to feel anything for this movie which is probably a bad sign. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

About Alex, August 8, 2014

A movie about a group for friends that stars Aubrey Plaza and Max Greenfield, makes fun of the fact that it is a Big Chill rip-off and has a group of friends who aren’t all white. If only writer/director Jesse Zwick was a woman, we would have a movie that Melissa and would have to go to when it came out because of, you know, principles. [Look, there’s just not enough female-directed movies so I think we should support those. This definitely looks better than the movie about the guy who wants to sleep with his friends’ wives. I will note that annoying Maggie Grace from Lost is in it. BLERG. -M]

Dear White People, October 17, 2014

I can’t fucking wait for this movie! It looks so good and makes it really fucking hard to watch the trailer below for The Good Lie. [Dear White People is full of so many of our favorite actors from TV, like Teyonah Parris, Tyler James Williams, and Tessa Thompson. Hooray! This looks smart and funny and I hope it gets good press. Besides this. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

The Judge, October 10, 2014

I feel like I have watched this movie a million times before but I do appreciate Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. [This should be a miniseries or TV movie. Ummmm the houses look pretty? I don’t have much else to say. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

The Good Lie, October 3, 2014

This movie is probably better then this section but I’m so fucking over the white savior movie trope. It also didn’t help that I literally watched it after watching the trailer for Dear White People. [YAY white people save Africans from certain doom! Even if this was based on a true story, that doesn’t mean I can’t have problems with it. Even Corey Stoll can’t save this crap. -M]
