Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, November 10, 2014

Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

Beyond the Lights

The notable Oscar movie coming out this week is Foxcatcher but Steve Carell’s voice makes my skin crawl so I will not be watching that trailer again so instead I suggest everyone go see Beyond the Lights which is getting incredible reviews and stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw who is amazing in everything she does (RIP Undercovers) as a reluctant pop star. It also stars Minnie Driver as her overbearing mother. [This movie is getting really good reviews? I am both shocked and excited. I have really wanted to see this. According to imdb, Nate Parker, the cute love interest, is from nearby Norfolk, VA! -M]

Elsa & Fred, is out onDemand and for Rent (starting November 6th)

The cast and the plot of this movie had me at hello, I love cute old people having fun and not taking nobodies bullshit. [Cranky old people are the fucking best. I think it would be most fun to see this at the Westhampton (small arthouse theater in a wealthy neighborhood frequented by older people) with a bunch of old ladies. It’s a Richmond tradition. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, December 17, 2014

The third installment of the Hobbit is basically battle battle war war which is probably going to be a lot of fun. [Every time another one of these comes out I am pissed I still haven’t finished the first one. Peter Jackson is really disappointed in me. -M]

Annie, December 19, 2014

My inner child is so freaking excited for the Annie remake especially now with this new trailer which features MORE SINGING. [It’s still corny as shit, but the technology and cake look super fun. Also Cameron Diaz will be delightful playing a trashy bitch. -M]

Ballet 422, February 6, 2015

After watching both seasons of AOL’s city.ballet. I was super stoked by this documentary about choreographing the 422 ballet for the New York City Ballet. [I am watching a ton of ballet stuff lately, not because I like dancing as a means of expression, but because their bodies do insane things that I suddenly appreciate as I (try to) practice yoga.  I will watch the crap out of this. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Into the Woods, December 25, 2014

Into the Woods trailer NOW WITH SINGING. I am so lukewarm about this musical with or without the singing but HEY MERYL STREEP OSCAR 2015. [The first trailer did not have singing and I was SO MAD when I saw it at the theater before the 100 Foot Journey. I keep seeing this trailer with my mother, who likes to remind me of her hatred for both Meryl Streep and Sondheim, so she will not be seeing this with me. Lots of songs were cut from the Broadway version so purists will hate it. I will just be happy to see singing in the movie theater. So many SLLS faves like Chris Pine & Lucy Punch! -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Let’s Kill Ward’s Wife, December 23, 2014

Scott Foley what have you done? [Wow this just perpetuates the stereotype of the shrew wife who won’t let her husband do anything AND makes that into a crime a woman should die for? Stars Scott Foley’s insane beautiful wife, who is the sister to Patrick Wilson’s insanely beautiful wife, and all four of them are in this shitty, offensive movie. I really liked Dagmara after the Lena Dunham debacle too. Sigh. -M]
