Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, October 20, 2015

Movie Trailer Monday

(or Thursday because of STAR WARS! And Melissa’s job.)

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

Rock the Kasbah

Is this the first time Bill Murray and Bruce Willis have been in a movie together? Is that Lady Gaga’s fiance? Am I really THIS exited for a Kate Hudson movie? [I think this looks pretty bad. For every Rushmore, Bill Murray makes at least one questionable choice. AV Club calls it a “smaller, dumber Ishtar,” which makes me kind of wish we’d made it to Ishtar last time I visited but that Princess Diana movie sucked out all my joy. -M]

Experimenter, is out onDemand and for Rent

This movie looks slightly surreal for a biopic and the subject matter looks super interesting plus the cast is stellar. I’m pleased Winona Ryder is working more. [Anthony Edwards, where have you been? I love this cast so much and YOU KNOW period pieces that are true stories are MY JAM. This is definitely something I would really enjoy. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, December 18, 2015

In my ridiculous excitement for this movie I watched half of a football game for two teams I don’t care about AT ALL –I BLEED BLACK AND GOLD! GO PITTSBURGH –even though you have really problematic quarterbacks. [PJ just turned it on during halftime because that’s what Twitter told him to do, and we didn’t even miss the Voice! Well, I didn’t miss the Voice. -M]

This trailer is amazing so much John Boyega and Daisy Ridley looking like they are going to kick ass. I have included in my lead up to the trailer their cute reactions to watching it for the first time. As usual J.J. Abrams casting of talented but not well known young people is magnificent. [Daisy is totally looking more like a lead, which makes me happy, but this trailer suffered from a lack of Oscar Isaac’s face. -M]

I am super excited to see so much Harrison Ford –HAN SOLO FTW! ALSO is that Lupita Nyong’o I hear coaxing our leads to let the force in –SO INSANELY EXCITING! [I can’t believe people are actually mad that white men are not the leads of this film. The Daily Show did a great piece on this here. We haven’t bought tickets yet because we can’t decide when/where to go (we don’t want to watch it with children), but it will happen soon! -M]

Hail, Caesar!, February 5, 2016

I have watched this trailer at least ten times since it came out. I changed my facebook status to Channing Tatum in a sailor suit (honestly I would watch an entire movie with him tap dancing in a sailor suit). I think Scarlett Johansson is a PERFECT ESTHER WILLIAMS. I am so excited for George Clooney to play another boob for the Coen brothers. [This is 100% my everything. I, too, have watched the trailer a bunch. Insane art direction, beautifully filmed, a cast we are all familiar with? Yep, sounds like the Coens. Why do I have to wait until February?? UGH. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

A Bigger Splash, May 13, 2016

Truth be told this is only in this category because I had too many “must watches” and this one is the one I will most likely wait and watch on my TV. It looks gorgeous and the acting looks great. I also love how much the trailer leaves to the imagination. [Two trailers with SWINTON and Ralph Fiennes in a row? WE ARE SO LUCKY. Her clothes look fabulous. May is also a long way away! -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

The Forest, January 8, 2016

Oh Natalie Dormer, you are too talented for this horror crap. [MTV-produced horror crap. I made it thirty seconds in, where there was screaming, til I turned it off. -M]
