Movie Trailer Mondays

TheBestManHoliday_1 TheBestManHoliday_2 TheBestManHoliday_3 Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this week

The Best Man Holiday

The first time I ever noticed Taye Diggs was in How Stella got her Groove Back but I fell in love with him when he was in The Best Man, which came out a year later and also starred Nia Long whom I had loved on The Guiding Light. I’m glad to see everyone back for this sequel 14 years after the original. [I like that movie too, it’s a Saturday afternoon cable TV classic. I hope to add this one to the rotation in two years. -M]

Last Love is out onDemand and for Rent

This movie could be either boring/trite or a finely acted dramedy set in Paris. The acting talent is amazing but I’m not sure from the trailer if it’s one or the other. [Wait, when was Justin Kirk nominated for a Golden Globe? I hope it wasn’t for the animal hospital show. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box, January 10, 2014

This movie reminds me of National Treasure which I am not ashamed to love. I am also a sucker for Michael Sheen. [This is totally something I would have gone to see with my dad when I was ten and now suddenly I am sad. Anyway, it looks cute! -M]

Snowpiercer, TBA 2014

This movie has been out in Asia and parts of Europe and received good reviews but it’s distributor here in the US is The Weinstein Company who want to cut a half hour from the run-time but the director doesn’t want to cut it so who knows when we will see it. Anyway it stars Chris Evans, Octavia Spencer and Tilda Swinton three people we love here at SLLS and seems to take place in a dystopian future on a train. I am so pissed off I can’t see it, NOW! [The Weinsteins are THE WORST! Stop trying to fuck with peoples’ art!! -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Winter’s Tale, February 14, 2014

Lady Sybil LIVES and she is in love with Colin Farrell (WHAT WOULD BRANSON SAY). Russell Crow is also in this movie with a hilarious Irish accent and it involves a time jump/travel and Jennifer Connolly. [Why do people keep trying to make Colin Farrell happen in America? He is like the Marion Cotillard of Ireland. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Oldboy, November 27, 2013

I’m not entirely sure I would be interested in seeing this movie as it is but I read the synopsis of the original and I REALLY have no desire to see it, though I know people who liked it so take that as you will. [Pass. -M]

  1. Historical accuracy be damned, I love me some National Treasure (1 & 2!) and am digging the trailer for The Adventurer.

    • I keep hoping Nicolas Cage needs more money and they decide to make a National Treasure 3. On a related note I got Melissa to watch those movies because of her love of Diane Kruger. 🙂
