Movie Trailer Mondays

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

The Fifth Estate Benedict Cumberbatch

Notable movies coming out this week

The Fifth Estate

This is the second Daniel Brühl movie to come out this fall, this one was also at TIFF and based on true events.  Instead of formula one car racing in the 70s, this time it’s the start of wikileaks and Julian Assange played by Benedict Cumberbatch with a greasy wig and Australian accent. Anthony Mackey from The Hurt Locker and Laura Linney also star. [I don’t know why I want to see this, it looks crappy and I read a review which said it asks more questions than it answers. Maybe it’s my love of movies inspired by real events? -M]

Best Man Down is out onDemand and for Rent

Justin Long and Tyler Labine star in this indie about one wedding and one funeral. The trailer is kind of tonally haywire with the beginning broad comedy and the end moving dramedy.

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

The Monuments Men (trailer 2), December 18, 2013

I love every single person in this movie and with every trailer I just get more and more ridiculously excited about it. [More movies based on real life events, except this one is a PERIOD PIECE, which I love even more. I get weird pangs of excitement when I watch this. -M]

Grudge Match, December 25, 2013

There are only two reasons that this movie is in this section and their names are Kevin Hart and Alan Arkin. In fact I recommend that Hollywood just make a Kevin Hart/Alan Arkin buddy movie STAT! This also stars Robert “Raging Bull” DeNiro and Sylvester “Rocky” Stallone as aging boxers –FUN! [Even Alan Arkin can’t make me watch this trailer. Aging boxers? UGH. Can we get more women to make movies please? I am tired of this shit. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, December 25, 2013

Jack Ryan is definitely the American Bond and the beginning of this trailer is basically Casino Royal with Chris Pine instead of Daniel Craig. Unlike Bond,  Jack Ryan is married and so we have Keira Knightly as Ryan’s wife fucking shit up for her man. Kevin Costner also stars as a poor man’s Judi Dench. [Even though Chris Pine is ridiculously pretty this movie will get zero of my monies. From the director of THOR? You really don’t want anyone to see this movie. -M]

The Invisible Woman, December 25, 2013

Look kids Ralph Fiennes directed a movie about Charles Dickens and his much younger mistress Felicity Jones in a terrible blond wig. Kristen Scott Thomas is probably the highlight of this film. [Ralph romanced KST in The English Patient and now he’s fucking the girl who plays her daughter? I hate that Hollywood keeps making movies like this so old farts can make out with hot young women on screen. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Skinwalker Ranch, October 30, 2013

Umm, this is what you get when you combine The Blair Witch Project with Paranormal Activity and then add a dash of evil beast and a pinch of aliens. [I’m putting a moratorium on horror movies shot with handheld cameras. LISTEN TO ME. -M]
