Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, April 21, 2014

Movie Trailer Mondays

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this week

The Other Woman

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays Leslie Mann’s asshole husband who is having an affair with both Cameron Diaz and Kate Upton in this movie that will probably not be as good as The First Wives Club which it reminds me of even though the plots are different. [But this movie seems so much more sexist somehow? Anyway I will totally watch this on cable. -M]

Bright Days Ahead, is out onDemand and for Rent

Fanny Ardent stars in this French film about an older woman who has an affair with a younger man, which seems like a very French film thing to do. This also takes place near the seaside so it’s pretty. [I wish this was at my local art house cinema so I could see it with all the cute older ladies. Note: written and directed by a woman, Marion Vernoux! -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

The Grand Seduction, May 30, 2014

TIM RIGGINS’ IS A DOCTOR IN CANADA! TIM RIGGINS’ LOVES CRICKET! I was super excited about this movie when it was premiering at TIFF and now that I have seen the trailer I am even more excited. If it’s any good I might start calling Tim Riggins’ by his actual name –NEVER! [I LOVE QUIRKY TOWNSPEOPLE. It is my “thing.” Also, Canada, cat decor, wicked beards, old men and movies that remind me of Doc Hollywood. I will be a total killjoy and wish there were more women/POC in this movie, even though “old white dudes” seems to be part of the town’s characteristics, ugh. -M]

Obvious Child, June 6, 2014

I love Jenny Slate and this movie looks so much smarter than your average romantic comedy –WIN!!! [GABE LIEDMAN!!!!!!!!! Bestie X Bestie shoutout! I hope she actually gets an abortion. This movie is probably not for everyone.  And RICHARD KIND is in it and you know I love him so. I’m psyched for this. Again, written and directed by women. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

If I Stay, August 22, 2014

Another Monday with another YA book adaptation this one stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a teen who must decide to either live or die –seriously?!? [I will not see this but HOT DAD ALERT! Joshua Leonard, sweet beard. <3 -M]

Gone Girl, October 3, 2014

Last summers (or was it two summers ago) blockbuster novel is now a movie starring Ben Affleck and directed by David Fincher (who should be directing The Girl Who Played with Fire), it looks like it might be fun, especially because the author restructured the ending so the people will be surprised. [I do not like the use of “She” in this trailer–it does not fit. I did not make it more than 20 seconds through, despite my love of Rosamund Pike–Katie and I totally watched Jack Reacher. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Dolphin Tale 2, September 19, 2014

I’m sure the first Dolphin Tale was a lovely family film but I’m not sure there needs to be another one. I hope Ashley Judd, Harry Connick Jr., and Morgan Freeman are being paid a shit-ton. [I thought this was going to be a cartoon, which I could have handled. But it’s live action and the first words on the screen are “In 2011” and that is where I cut this trailer off. Poor Ashley Judd, I really like her. -M]
