Movie Trailer Friday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out tomorrow

Guardians of the Galaxy

So apparently my hatred for Bradley Cooper extends to him playing anthropomorphic animals and yet I’m still psyched for this movie as my love for Chris Pratt runs deep. [This is the first blockbuster action movie I have been excited for in a long time, because it actually looks funny. -M]

Very Good Girls, is out onDemand and for Rent

Coming of age drama starring Elisabeth Olsen and Dakota Fanning which I will either love or loathe. [I vote loathe, but it was written and directed by a woman–Naomi Foner–so I might support it, despite the 35 on Metacritic. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Dear White People, October 17, 2014

I will do everything in my power to make this movie a hit because it looks fantastic. Both Tessa Thompson (Veronica Mars) and Teyonah Parris (Mad Men) are two AMAZING actresses and I really hope this leads to more work. [FULL TRAILER!! I have been waiting for this for weeks. It looks even funnier and MORE spot-on about race and privilege. Everyone should see this. -M]

Interstellar, November 7, 2014

Let’s hope Interstellar jump-starts the Wes Bentley renaissance. Also we finally get to hear Anne Hathaway speak! [There is already a McConaissance, so a Bentlaissance could be next, though it does not roll off the tongue quite as nice.  This is Christopher Nolan, so lovely cinematography is expected, but my mouth was open watching this trailer because it was so beautiful. -M]

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, December 17, 2014

Thorin Oakenshield is still majestic and still hellbent on taking back his mountain, dragons be DAMMED! [I am really behind on my Hobbit movies. Also I could not finish this trailer because the music reminded me of a fourth-tier song from Eurovision, one that, if it was from England, only Ireland would vote for it. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

The Longest Week, September 5, 2014

I am unsure if I want to watch another movie about rich white people who are assholes but I kind of think this movie MIGHT be satirizing that AND I love these people especially Jenny Slate so I might give this a try as a rent. [The titles that are thrown in–stark red on white–really distract from this trailer, which could be Whit Stillman-esque if I could see more than two seconds of the movie at a time. -M]

Mad Max: Fury Road, May 15, 2015

I have never seen a Mad Max movie which is crazy when you think about the movies I watch on the regular so I’m only interested in this movie because I find Tom Hardy ridiculously charming. [Even Tom Hardy can’t make me interested in Mad Max. UGH. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Fifty Shades of Grey, February 14, 2015

This movie looks terrible. I hope Queen Bey was paid a lot for that song and her teaser for this teaser trailer. It also has managed to make Jamie Dornan NOT hot (BRING BACK THE BEARD). Also I feel like I must tell Fox that they suck for cancelling Ben & Kate and therefore forcing Dakota Johnson into this shitfest. [DAKOTA, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO YOUR CAREER?? Were you really sad about Ben & Kate’s cancellation? You couldn’t have been more sad than Katie and I, because we still bring it up on the blog regularly. -M]

  1. I don’t know nothing about the Mad Max series but i HAVE to see Tom Hardy on the big screen in whatever!!! Having this said, i have to admit; the trailer looks f#cking dope and gritty (i happens to like that) !

    • Hey Birgit,

Tom Hardy is very swoon-worthy! I’m hoping I get more excited about this reboot the closer it gets to next May.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting 🙂
