Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, December 14, 2015

Movie Trailer Monday

That pinky gives me hope this movie will have a sense of humor.

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

ENJOY one of the funniest movie featurettes ever made. For those of you who do NOT want to watch Star Wars this weekend go see Sisters. #youcanseethemboth [Well, we have Star Wars tickets and probably too much family stuff to see two movies this weekend, but we will all be laughing together when Tina and Amy host SNL this Saturday. -M]

The Girl in the Book, is out onDemand and for Rent

Written and directed by a woman, this movie currently get’s a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and looks super interesting. Emily VanCamp is a very good actress who has been on two television shows one great and one the was AWESOME and then disappointing and in the margins in Captain America movies –come on Marvel she is Peggy Carter’s niece! I hope this little indie gets her more work. [I texted Katie about Revenge yesterday, not knowing about this movie! This actually looks really interesting, and appears to have a fully-formed female character at the center who is not perfect and is struggling to be a writer. YAY! -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

X-Men: Apocalypse, May 27, 2016

This movie looks AWESOME. My one trifle is why on earth they would hide Oscar Isaac behind all that make-up and plastic. [I am so very tired of superheroes (“let’s make them younger so we can make X-Men movies FOREVERRRR!”) and there’s a 2% chance I would watch this on HBO, but I only watched that one X-Men movie because of January Jones’ hilariously bad performance. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Independence Day: Resurgence, June 24, 2016

One of the things I loved about the first Independence Day was how light, breezy, and fun it was. This movie or at least this trailer is kind of super serious. ALSO why the fuck would you re-cast Mae Whitman. [All these blockbusters are making me depressed. Though isn’t Sela Ward the greatest?? She looks amazing. -M]

The Legend of Tarzan, July 1, 2016

My hope for this movie is that it has a sense of humor, I kind of see it in Samuel L. Jackson, Christolph Waltz, and in the very last scene of the trailer but you never know, I thought Godzilla would be fun but it took itself way to seriously. On the positive side of things David Yates the director here did a great job with the latter Harry Potter movies and at least the actors here are good. [My hope for this movie is that I never have to see it. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, December 23, 2015

Jason Lee you deserve so much better than these movies. [No, Katie, Jason Lee deserves EXACTLY these movies. He is mostly doing kids movies now. Also, RIP Memphis Beat. -M]

And because I can’t talk about him without hearing this song in my head:
