Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, December 8, 2015

Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

Don Verdean

This truly is the notable movie opening this week not just the movie we would most like to see I can only guess that everyone is holding off opening movies until after Star Wars which is a week from Friday —STAR WARS IS OPENING A WEEK FROM FRIDAY (and Sisters). ANYWHO this movie has a stellar cast and looks super funny. [There’s not much comedy out there right now so I expect this to do pretty well. I like to see something funny in the midst of all the serious Oscar dramas. -M]

Life, is out onDemand and for Rent

Let’s get the obvious out-of-the-way: Dane DeHaan is in NO way as hot or as enigmatic as James Dean though he does look similar and the movie makes great pains to recreate the famous Life photos of Dean (which you can see here). I wish this trailer made me more invested in Robert Pattinson as his character seems to be whom the movie is about. Also we here at SLLS always want MORE Joel Edgerton (though NOT in white washed Egypt movies AKA Exodus). [Joel Edgerton was so good in Gatsby and won an Australian Oscar! Did James Dean look that strung out all the time? This has “prestige movie” written all over it and could have been a good candidate for this site except I haven’t heard anyone talk about Life. NO ONE. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Ride Along 2, January 15, 2016

This trailer is funny and reminds me that I need to see the first Ride Along –I can’t believe I still haven’t seen it (I’m so sorry Kevin Hart). [I think it’s on cable right now–I keep scrolling through but it’s never at the beginning and watching it onDemand is too much of a time commitment. -M]

The Nice Guys, May 20, 2016

I had not heard of this film but I have to admit the trailer makes me super excited to see it for a variety of reasons: Ryan Gosling and that kid are amusing, it’s set in the seventies, Kim Bassinger and Russell Crowe are in one of my favorite all time movies, L.A. Confidential. [I feel bad cause I watched this last week so my reaction is not my usual genuine surprise. Anyway, Ryan Gosling is winning me over: keep doing stuff like this, buddy. I love the costumes and all the cussing and how incompetent these dudes are. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

The Bronze, March 11, 2016

Every time I see Melissa Rauch’s bangs they make me giggle. Also the swearing is great, “sell it to the bitch-ass judges.” [Once I saw Gary Cole, I was like, this is going to be awesome!!! It has a crappy Metacritic score (45), but this could easily become a cable TV favorite. I will follow you, Thomas Middleditch! -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, March 25, 2016

I hate Superman, even if he is played by Henry Cavill. Glasses are NOT A DISGUISE, it’s so stupid. Also Ben Affleck is NOT good here. I’m not even going to bring up Wonder Woman. [Am I the only one tired of Jesse Eisenberg’s whole thing? Henry Cavill looks hot as shit in glasses, so I approve that “disguise.” The same three minutes will be recycled in the next eight trailers for this movie, so get used to them. I listened to a Vulture TV podcast where one critic said Kilgrave is the most frightening superhero villain ever, and after seeing crap like this AGAIN, I totally agree. “Destroying the world” is neither a scary nor realistic threat. Jessica Jones has ruined me for all superheroes. -M]
