Movie Trailer Monday (post Super Bowl special edition)

Due to the Super Bowl last night (and because we are in the shitty post-prestige movie season) we are going to take a break from our traditional Movie Trailer Monday and solely focus on the Super Bowl TV-spots from last night (think LOTS of action and summer tent-pole movies –FUN). [Because I do not support the NFL, I did not watch the game–I DID watch the Key & Peele football special–but that won’t stop me from making fun of all of this crap. -M]

Fifty Shades of Grey, February 13, 2015

I really want Melissa and I to go see this during a workday when we can sit in the back with our laptops. What is most likely going to happen is we will watch it drunk and tweet a lot sometime next summer. [Dakota Johnson is like a limp, personality-free doll. Where did the girl from Ben & Kate go? I cannot watch this without downing an entire bottle of wine first. -M]

Kingsman: The Secret Service, February 13, 2015

Colin Firth seems like he is having tons of fun in this spy movie by director Matthew Vaughn (who is the front runner for being January Jones’ baby-daddy). [This definitely looks like a fun time and might be a good alternative to the glut of low-rent action and kids movies that are out now. -M]

Unfinished Business, March 6, 2015

I’m not sure if it’s that Tom Wilkinson classes this up OR if baby Franco is just so fucking adorable but this is the first Vince Vaughn movie in a long time that I am excited about (though only so much as to watch it on premiere night for whatever pay cable channel it is on). [This looks totally dumb and does not appear to have any women or POC in starring roles but I will enjoy it on HBO about as much as I did the Jason Bateman/Melissa McCarthy “classic,” Identity Thief. -M]

The Divergent Series: Insurgent, March 20, 2015

The Divergent Series saved some money and paid for a spot during the pregame show. I’m not sure how much I learned about this movie other than Shailene Woodley is THE ONE! I was sad there were no scenes featuring Mr. Pamuk. [Kate Winslet’s dress is really nice. My interest in seeing these movies is lessening every day. -M]

Furious 7, April 3, 2015

This is one of the few franchises that just gets better and better (I’m sure a lot of that has to do with number fives addition of the Rock). This Super Bowl spot focuses on the basic plot and one really cool stunt by Vin Diesel. [Since these are not on Netflix or any of the pay channels (starting with the first one, of course) I have not seen any of them, but I think it would be fun to marathon them. Also, RIP Paul Walker. Just seeing him here made me sad. -M]

Pitch Perfect 2, May 15, 2015

This trailer wasn’t very plot heavy and focused on Rebel Wilson’s character who is very funny but I’m not sure if this trailer will bring in any new eyes. I’m not sure their money was well spent. [I think they sang against the Packers? I only know a few football players so I can’t verify. Whatever, I was already going to see this, so I don’t need any convincing. -M]

Tomorrowland, May 22, 2015

I cannot wait for a full trailer for this movie. Disney just keeps teasing us and I am so fucking intrigued. This spot has more George Clooney. [AND none of the spots are very long, so it makes me crazy! I WANT MORE. Also, if none of you have read this great Sady Doyle piece on feminism, Disney and Agent Carter, please do so now. -M]

Jurassic World, June 12, 2015

This movie just keeps looking better and better! I enjoyed that the producers of this trailer decided to make it a longer than usual TV-spot with lots of NEW footage. [This seems like it will be the most delightful summer movie ever. Note: I have not seen Guardians of the Galaxy yet. -M]

Ted 2, June 26, 2015

The Ted 2 Super Bowl spot gets bonus points for featuring Tom Brady but gets a demerit for simply existing. [Tom Brady is the worst, he always looks like he ate chalk. Everyone knows this is the best puppet-related thing Seth MacFarlane has ever done. -M]

Terminator: Genisys, July 1, 2015

Heavy on Arnold, low on Jai Courtney and just a recycling of footage from the first trailer makes this a meh Super Bowl spot for me. [It’s funny how much we have grown to like Jai. His Die Hard movie is on the movie channels and I stop to watch some of it quite frequently.  Also, this trailer barely exists. -M]
