Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

The Divergent Series: Allegiant

The third of four Divergent movies is finally opening. The only thing that makes these movies better than the Hunger Games is that it does NOT have a stupid love triangle –just let Peeta go back to District 12 to paint and bake in peace, you BASTARDS. [Only two have come out? I thought for sure we were up to four or five. -M]

The Legend of Barney Thomson, is out onDemand and for Rent

I kind of hate that Emma Thompson is playing Robert Carlyle’s mother (she is TOO young) BUT she is kind of the best part of this trailer (as she often is). [I can see why she would want to do it, though–what a juicy, fun role! -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, June 3, 2016

I have watched this trailer so many times since it came out. It reminds me so much of my favorite Will Farrell/John C. Reilly pairing Talladega Nights. [This trailer was sent from heaven to make my life better. I am worried for Keanu’s chances to be my next favorite HBO movie, though truthfully, I will probably buy this on blu-ray and it will live in the bedroom. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

A Hologram For The King, TBA

I love grown-up romantic dramedies like this movie. It reminds me a lot of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen which is delightful, regardless of its overly complicated title. [The voice over is sooooooo dramatic, but The Talking Heads part was THE BEST. How weird is it that Dave Eggers movies actually star Tom Hanks? Apparently Ben Whishaw is in this too but I didn’t see him in the trailer. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

I Am Wrath, May 13, 2016

As someone who LOVED John Wick this makes me sad that this is the type of John Wick rip-off we are going to have to endure for the next few years. I had high hopes Sam Trammell would have a good career after True Blood. FINALLY that is one of the WORST head pieces I have seen since whatever was happening to Ryan Gosling’s head in The Big Short. [I have so little interest in John Wick that I am surprised there are movies ripping it off. This one DOES star Christopher Meloni and Rebecca De Mornay (welcome back!) but I think her character dies, probably because she’s actually an age appropriate match for John Travolta. -M]
