Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

The Divergent Series: Insurgent

I feel bad that Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, and Octavia Spencer are stuck in the poor man’s dystopian teenage action movie. However I kind of think this is exactly the type of movie that Mr. Pamuk and that kid from A Fault in our Stars would star in. [Shailene and Miles are a few years away from their first Oscar noms, while the other three have lots of awards/nominations. They are ALL too good for this. Except you, Ansel Elgort, you are extraordinarily mediocre. -M]

Cymbeline, is out onDemand and for Rent

Ethan Hawke is starring in another Shakespearean update. It also stars Dakota Johnson and Lonely Boy from Gossip Girl. AND Ed Harris doing his best Liam Neeson. It actually looks like a Liam Neeson movie. Liam Neeson should totally star in some kind of classy action movie. [Both Penn Badgley and Anton Yelchin look hot. I don’t have many other good things to say about this, but the wiki page for Cymbeline, a play I’ve never read, despite taking (and failing due to laziness) Shakespeare twice in college, is pretty interesting. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Adult Beginners, April 24, 2015

I watched Neighbors last week and realized I will watch Rose Byrne in anything, this movie also stars Nick Kroll and Bobby Cannavale and seems much more appealing than Neighbors (though I will say I found Neighbors more enjoyable than I thought I would). [Nick Kroll is usually so unlikeable–and this is coming from someone who names all of their fantasy sports teams after Kroll Show characters (GO GENE CREEMERS!)–so to see him be charming and hanging out with kids is adorable. The cast is filled with many of my other favorites, and since there’s not much out this time of year, this is a must-see. -M]

Tomorrowland, May 22, 2015

I really really really hope this movie doesn’t suck. Then again I have watched Battleship and John Carter about 50 times each so I will basically watch every PG science fiction movie a studio makes but this one I want to be GOOD! [Since someone had the good sense to put Kathryn Hahn in this, I have high hopes for its greatness. -M]

San Andreas, May 29, 2015

DISASTER MOVIE! NATIONAL HOLIDAY! BE THERE OR BE SQUARE! [I’m always so interested in the casts of action movies. Ioan Gruffudd, the former Mr. Fantastic, makes sense, but Archie Panjabi, from The Good Wife, does not. I would rather watch the 1974 classic Earthquake instead. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Ride, TBA 2015

Helen Hunt wrote and directed another movie and it stars Luke Wilson and the kid from The Giver. This movie looks super cute and funny. Also let’s all be happy that Helen Hunt is acting because, let’s face it, she is great. [I might have teared up a bit watching this. Let’s all go see it so we can encourage women over 40 to keep making and starring in movies. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

The Forger, April 24, 2015

WIG!!! WIGGGGGGGG!!! WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!! AMAZING WIG!!! WIG OF COOL!!! FANCY WIG OF THE FORGER!!! And GOATEEEEE!!! [Travolta’s “goatee” immediately made me think of this mascara brush:

Travolta vs mascara

And THIS is Jason Ritter’s goatee in David Cross’ The Hits, reminding everyone ever of pubes glued to his face:

Jason Ritter Hits

What is up with this ridiculous facial hair, dudes? -M]
