We were really excited about having Amy as this week’s Smart Dame as a bookend to her amazing Emmy win! But then… she didn’t win. She did entertain the world with choreographing a bit about a mixed-up acceptance speech with the actual winner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Amy founded Smart Girls at the Party, a social network that “celebrates girls, friendships and spontaneous dance parties!” per their You Tube channel. The channel has lots of great videos that show girls around the world, great music and of course, Ask Amy.
Katie can’t watch these videos because they make her cry. They are beautiful–Amy’s advice is so honest and she never talks down to the girls who ask questions. I love that she records them in personal spaces, like her bed or couch, wearing very little makeup. It makes her seem even more relatable.
I have watched Parks & Recreation from the beginning. Not only does Amy star as the idealist government employee Leslie Knope, but she has also directed one episode and written several others (she got her practice writing comedy at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade), including my favorite episode of the show, “Telethon.” I know that even if NBC prematurely cancels P&R, Amy will continue to create so many amazing projects.
