Celeb Fashion 101: Your stylist is the bestest!

The good: better than meh but just shy of great…

Kirsten Dunst

Everything Kirsten wears is interesting.  I love that she experiments with clothes and never wears anything boring.  She would be great but a lot of times either her shoes are bad or her hair/make up is off.

Claire Danes

It isn’t a secret that I don’t particularly like Claire Danes but she has excellent fashion sense.  I don’t think I have ever seen her make a mis-step.  If I had one complaint is that she plays it a little too safe.

Solange

In terms of clothes Solange is my favorite Knowles.  She is stylish and funky.  She would be in the great group but occasionally her experimentation goes awry but don’t you dare stop experimenting Solange!

Kate Middleton

I love Kate Middleton’s hair and her style.  She does an incredible job of picking pieces that are interesting and conservative.  I wish she would branch out in shape and add a little bit more funk into the wardrobe.

Emma Stone

Emma is SOOOOOO close to being great I toyed with swapping her with Rooney but in the end I think that Emma is still trying to find her style and Rooney knows her style.  I wish she would stick to a hair color–the blonde washes her out and she has trouble with getting the correct make-up.

[I agree with all of these but I still find Kate Middleton's clothes boring. Like I want her to get a bob or something to be a little edgier. -M]

The great: you have a signature style and are so close to being fab…

I could tell that these ladies were the right pick for great because it was nearly impossible to pick which dress I would use.

Ginnifer Goodwin

I love all her clothes, they are always interesting.  She pays a lot of attention to her makeup, shoes and accessories.  Like many of the ladies on this list she is very edgy.  We like the avant-garde here at SLLS.  I do wish she would fucking smile on the red carpet, however; stop vamping Ginnifer–you’re too cute for that!

Anne Hathaway

Anne is very good at being the girl next door in her movies but on the red carpet she is always perfection.  I know she uses Rachel Zoe as a stylist but I think a lot of her looks have to do with her style.  Anne likes classic looks that have embellishments or are made from beautiful fabrics.  I wish Kate Middleton would dress like Anne.

Lucy Liu

Lucy is never boring on the red carpet.  Her style is a more polished and more grown up version of Ginnifer Goodwin. Her hair, in particular, always looks fabulous.

Rooney Mara

First off, Rooney was amazing in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, secondly she rocked almost all of her red carpet appearances she did for the movie (she had an early misstep with some burgundy lipstick).  Her style is simple, structural and gothic.  I seriously love all of the dresses she wore that looked like folded paper.

Michelle Williams

Let’s just pause and focus on Michelle and her romance with Jason Segel…SQUEE!  Michelle’s style is a little 60s mod and teeny tiny bit twee (a good amount of twee; yes there is such a thing as good twee).  It was so hard to pick from the above dress and her Oscars gown (I am a fan of a peplum when it’s done well).  The pink won out because it looked best with the group.

The fab: you are never boring, always adventurous, and impress me over and over again…

AHHHHHHHH!!!  All of the pretty dresses, it was soooooo hard to choose.

It was not however hard to pick these five ladies.  I am always excited to see what they are going to wear on the red carpet.

Fan Bingbing

The Chinese actress and singer wears amazing clothes.  I love that she wears clothes that are from Chinese designers and that are traditional and yet modern. She often goes all the way with her styling, wearing odd accessories that are straight from the runway.

Cate Blanchett

I am always excited to see Cate on the red carpet.  She always picks intricate couture pieces that are never mundane.  Even when she wears black she always makes the look more captivating with jewelry. Cate has had more memorable looks in the past 15 years than any other actress.

Diane Kruger

The Krug is a former model and knows clothes–the rumor is she does not have a stylist.  She even dresses well when she is just going around town.  I am rarely disappointed in her styling. We love her best accessory-Joshua Jackson, of course-and the two of them make a very dapper couple.

Zoe Saldana

Zoe is a girl who loves a pretty dress.  She also knows how to stand on a red carpet and show off said pretty dress. Ms. Saldana also takes some risks, which is always appreciated.

Tilda Swinton

SWINTON.  I loved Tilda when she wore a Glad trash bag to the Oscars.  This lady can do no wrong.  She is AMAZING!!! She is a red carpet legend due her preference for color and avant-garde designers.

[I still have the W mag when Swinton was in it and did that photo shoot where she was wandering around the desert wearing white makeup and masks. I love her. -M]
