Smart ladies love award shows, the Golden Globe nominations PREVIEW

AKA hey Hollywood Foreign Press Association don’t you forget about Fringe…

Even though I know you will…

Thursday the Golden Globe nominations will be announced and we here at SLLS are beyond excited!  It just might be our favorite (TV and MOVIES).  This show is going to be way better than the stupid Oscars ,what with Tina and Amy hosting, but were getting ahead of ourselves! We first need to actually nominate stuff.  So even though some accountant is already sifting through all of the nominations ballots, we are going to tell you who we would nominate if we were foreign and a member of the press (seriously how do we make this happen we would also like to be asked to join AMPAS).  I’m only covering TV cause I haven’t seen all the prestige movies yet though I have high hopes for Lincoln and Argo (as those are the only ones I’ve seen). [I have seen Lincoln and The Master and I loved both so much. Maybe Magic Mike can be nominated for something? Hey, they have comedy movie awards! Channing for best actor, 21 Jump Street!! RIGHT??!! -M]

TV Drama

I would imagine that Mad Men, Game of Thrones, and Homeland are all locks with Downton Abbey most likely picking up the 4th slot but that leaves one more slot for something interesting and fun and NOT American Horror Story (cause that’s gross).  I suggest Fringe, Justified, Sons of Anarchy OR Nashville.  I will also be super fucking pissed if you nominate Smash over Nashville

[It seems as though the reviews for this season of Homeland are sliding but I don’t think it will prevent a nomination. I kind of think something fun might sneak in like Scandal. Breaking Bad is almost over so I think that’s also a lock. -M]

Last years nominees: American Horror Story, Boardwalk Empire, Boss, Game of Thrones and Homeland

TV Comedy

This category is totally up in the air except I would imagine that both Girls and Modern Family will be nominated and I wouldn’t be shocked if Girls won (though Modern Family won last year so who the fuck knows!).  If it were ME nominating 5 shows they would be (and this is based on my five favorite comedies I watch): Ben and Kate, The Big Bang Theory, Bunheads, Happy Endings and New Girl.  Make Happy Endings happen HFPA.  Glee has also gone from bad to terribly offensive in it’s badness and offensiveness so DON’T even go there!

[I think MF and NG will be the only nominees from last year (Enlightened didn’t have a new season and I have no idea what’s going on with Episodes).  Hoping Girls, Veep and Parks & Rec sneak in, but would love to see Suburgatory or Happy Endings get recognized! -M]

Last years nominees: Enlightened, Episodes, Glee, Modern Family, and New Girl

TV Lead Actress in a Drama

The ladies who are definite for nominations are Claire Danes, Juliana Magrgulies, and Elizabeth Moss (or she better be or I will cut you HFPA).  My girl Connie Britton better also be on that list (Tami Taylor 4EVA) and even though I here this season of Sons of Anarchy hasn’t been particularly kind to Katey Sagal her Gemma is one of the strongest women on TV (Melissa named her cat after her).  I would also love Lena Heady’s cray cray Queen Cersei and wouldn’t be surprised if they nominate Kerry Washington for Scandal.

[I am cool with Kerry Washington! I would like some Connie Britton too, she really holds Nashville together. Elizabeth Moss needs some goddamn recognition for what she went through on Mad Men. -M]

Last years nominees: Claire Danes (Homeland), Mireille Enos (The Killing), Juliana Margulies (The Good Wife), Madeleine Stowe (Revenge), and Callie Thorne (Necessary Roughness)

TV Lead Actor in a Drama

UMMMM how the fuck did Kelsey Grammer win this last year, I don’t even watch Homeland but I know that Damian Lewis is amazing and everyone LOVES Bryan Cranston (don’t watch Breaking Bad either) no wonder Kelsey Grammer was pissed that he didn’t get an Emmy nomination (not that he deserved one, does anyone even watch Boss, oh wait NO that’s why it was cancelled).  I would guess (it has to be since last years win is so fucked up) that Jon Hamm, Bryan Cranston, and Damien Lewis are locks with Steve Buscemi getting the fourth spot.  I would not be shocked if they add Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) to the list.

[I would love if Timothy Olyphant got a nod for Justified. He just gets sexier and sexier. Wait, I mean better and better. -M]

No man wears a henly better...

Last years nominees: Kelsey Grammer (Boss), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Jeremy Irons (The Borgias), and Damian Lewis (Homeland)

TV Lead Actress in a Comedy

HMMMM…as much as I love Mindy Kaling I am not loving The Mindy Project in fact I currently have two of those shows just sitting on my DVR [hey, me too! Well now it’s 3 after last night. -M].  Zooey, Tina, and Amy are definite locks (which will be awesome since Amy and Tina are hosting).  Sutton Foster would be AWESOME for Bunheads and I wouldn’t mind Dakota Johnson from Ben and Kate cause her adorable straight man daffiness is amazing.  Dammit I almost forgot about Lena Dunham (Girls) she too is a fucking lock…again Sutton Foster FTW!

[Oh this makes me wish Enlightened was on right now. Though it’s not really a comedy because I cry through it. Anyhoo, Sutton Foster and Martha Plimpton should join Zooey, Amy and Tina. I know Lena will probably get a nom but I think her work as writer and director is more important. And there’s no way these people are going to forget Julia Louis-Dreyfus.-M]

Last years nominees: Laura Dern (Enlightened), Zooey Deschanel (New Girl), Tina Fey (30 Rock), Laura Linney (The Big C), and Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation)

TV Lead Actor in a Comedy

MATT LEBLANC!!!  I forgot that he won he is amazing on that fucking show!  OKAY locks are Alec Baldwin and really I have no clue.  Since he won last year and season 2 of Episodes was terrific I would imagine Matt LeBlanc is also a lock.  Nat Faxon is amazing on Ben and Kate. I could also see Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki getting nominated.  This might be the category I care least about.

[You would care more if you watched Parks & Rec because Adam Scott should totally be put in the lead category. He did some great stuff last year with Leslie’s campaign. Also, LOUIS CK. I’m just sayin’. -M]

Last years nominees: Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), David Duchovny (Californication), Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Matt LeBlanc (Episodes), and Thomas Jane (Hung)

TV Supporting Actress in every kind of TV program you can think of

Maggie Smith and Jessica Lange are just going to have to duke this one out. BUT Lucy Punch (Ben and Kate) better fucking be nominated! I would also like any one or two or all three of the ladies from Happy Endings.

[It would rule to see Lucy nominated because how funny would she be on the red carpet? I love BJ, she is such a weirdo.  I’m going to throw out some random other favorites besides the Happy Endings ladies: Ellie Kemper on The Office, Aubrey Plaza and Rashida Jones on Parks & Rec, Jessica Pare on Mad Men (fuck you) and Maggie Siff on Sons of Anarchy, who is turning into the baddest bitch ever. -M]

Lady Violet, Maggie Smith

The Dowager Countess is my hero!!!

Last years nominees:  Jessica Lange (American Horror Story), Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey), Sofía Vergara (Modern Family), and Evan Rachel Wood (Mildred Pierce)

TV Supporting Actor in every kind of TV program you can think of

PETER DINKLAGE 4EVA!!!  I would also LOVE Jake Johnson (New Girl) to be nominated and all of the Happy Endings boys!

[WALTON GOGGINS OWNS THIS SHIT. I really love how Boyd and Raylan interact with each other. Also I like Aaron Paul a lot even though I don’t watch Breaking Bad. Jake Johnson should be nominated for everything. I know no one likes to waste these noms on SNL but Bill Hader is a goddamn genius. -M]

If Olyphant is the king of the henley then Goggins is the king of the jacket and cuffed jean...
