Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, May 11, 2015

Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

Mad Max: Fury Road

I love Tom Hardy but I am unsure if I want to see Mad Max. On the one hand it looks cool but on the other hand it looks incredibly repetitive. Charlize Theron does look like a total badass which is very appealing. [Some of my friends saw it and loved it but I don’t care for these dark action movies OR Tom Hardy very much.  Too many creepy masks. -M]

Welcome to Me, is out onDemand and for Rent

I’m totally on the fence about this movie. On one hand it looks winsome and daffy; on the other hand, it looks like it might be glossing over mental illness. BUT the supporting cast looks great, plus Wes Bentley with a beard is hot. [TIM ROBBINS. I actually want to watch this immediately. This reminds me of all the weird movies I love, like Being John Malkovich and Punch-Drunk Love. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, June 12, 2015

This, Dope, and Diary of a Teenage Girl are the movies from this year’s Sundance that I am most excited about. This trailer makes me even more excited. I mean it looks potentially depressing but also potentially funny –it’s like the anti-Fault in the Stars. ALSO Connie Britton and Nick Offerman as a married couple is inspired and brilliant. [I sat at my computer for a full ten minutes trying to think of something pithy to say about this trailer, but I just can’t. The movie looks really sweet and smart–the editing of the trailer and the movies the two boys create remind me of Wes Anderson. -M]

Magic Mike XXL, July 1, 2015

The boys are back AND it looks like they don’t need Steven Soderbergh to make an awesome movie about male strippers. Then again I am down for any movie that has this much half-naked Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello. ALSO Donald Glover has joined the cast –WIN! [Mike is still trying to convince everyone he’s a serious furniture designer, eh? Is Donald Glover going to be shirtless? It looks like he’s just driving a van. He is my kind of dream stripper though–cute nerd. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Legend, TBA 2015

EVEN more Tom Hardy this time two for the price of one –LOVE IT, well love it enough to rent it on Amazon. [Tom Hardy does look nice in that vintage suit, and the set design is gorgeous. I think I would enjoy this more with Katie, in one of our marathon movie nights, than on my own. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

Absolution, May 15, 2015

Nothing says unintentional hilarity like Steven Seagal, behold the king of the C-Movie. [That is some fug facial hair. This movie would benefit from a trailer that is edited more like Legend–less talking, more action and music.  Not that I would see it either way. -M]
