Smart ladies love movies, this week in trailers, May 18, 2015

Movie Trailer Monday

Each week I review movie trailers that came out the previous week or for movies that are about to premiere. Some of these movies I am excited about, some I am mildly curious about, and the rest I make fun of!

Notable movies coming out this weekend

We have featured this movie fairly recently but I feel it’s important to remind people that there are large-scale movies that are NOT sequels. [I may have run out of things to say about this movie. -M]

Slow West, is out onDemand and for Rent

Every time I watch this trailer I get excited, it’s just so daffy and whimsical. [Fassy makes such interesting choices–reminder to everyone to watch FRANK on Netflix–and this movie looks like a cross between the Coens and the Tim Burton movies of yore. I’m definitely in. -M]

Movies I can’t wait to see in an ACTUAL theater

Ricki and the Flash, August 7, 2015

RICK SPRINGFIELD and Meryl in a BAND! Audra McDonald! Mamie Gummer! I’m sorry I’m so shouty but this looks fun. [It seems cheesier than I hoped. But Meryl classes up everything and Katie and I DO love a choreographed “spontaneous” dance sequence. -M]

I won’t go to an ACTUAL theater but will pay for it on Amazon

Vacation, July 29, 2015

This could be good or terrible. I like the idea of Chris Hemsworth playing a character other than Thor. [I am guessing terrible, but it’s an R-rated comedy starring Christina Applegate (I watched every episode of Samantha Who? AND Up All Night) so I will see it anyway. -M]

Crimson Peak, October 16, 2015

This kind of horror movie is the only type I kind of like mainly because it’s pretty to look at. It also has Charlie Hunnam and Tom Huddleston –SO HOTTIES. [Nope, still fighting Pan’s Labyrinth nightmares. It doesn’t appear that Ron Perlman is in it, per imdb, so I will sit this one out and just keep watching Pacific Rim. -M]

You would have to PAY me to see it in an ACTUAL theater

The Intern, September 25, 2015

Has a person of color ever had a speaking role in a Nancy Meyers’ movie? Also Anne Hathaway, I expect better. [I saw this preview before PP2 and there is SO MUCH to make fun of, like how a woman needs a magical old white dude to save her career. Since it’s Nancy Meyers I will probably half-watch it on cable to look at the pretty sets. -M]

Jem and the Holograms, October 23, 2015

FUCK NO! You can re-watch the AMAZING cartoon on Netflix. [ANOTHER trailer I saw before PP2! I think I am more excited to see this than Katie–maybe on cable only, though, as it was made for children and I don’t want to be seen in the theater. -M]
